Eat Drink & Be Mary: March 2018

Jackson Cole | ONE WEEK

It's March 28th and our sweet boy is ALREADY a week old.   So cliche, BUT I can hardly believe it's already been a week and yet it feels like he's always been a part of our family.  Y'all this week has been everything I've ever dreamed of and more..sure there's been a lot less sleep but there's been a lot more smiles, laughter and the cutest squeaks and stretches and all the baby goodness.  I'm in heaven y'all.

Since this first week has been full of so much change (GOOD CHANGE!) I wanted to share a little update, but after this I only plan on doing monthly updates.

side note: this week is the last of the chalkboards (doin' it for the chatbook -- anyone else have and LOVE them?) but it turned out to be a pretty cute photo opp. with some pretty cute pictures.

ALSO, can we talk about how in shock I am that he came 4 days early!  The entire first half of my pregnancy-if not longer-I swore he'd be late (the 31st to be exact because there is a full moon that night).  Then as the end drew near I started to think he might come early.  Partly out of hope and partly because I got nervous that I wouldn't be ready and needed to do ALL. THE. THINGS.  Starting around 38 weeks, I began to say to Thomas maybe we'll have a baby tonight! and definitely was more uncomfortable and wondered if I was seeing signs of early labor.  Then Tuesday night, was the first time I thought maybe he won't come tonight and specifically remember texting Thomas that (he was on shift) and that it probably meant he would.  And sure enough he did!!  p.s. still working on writing his birth story

always throwing up that middle finger

SIZE:  Our sweet boy was born 8 lbs 4 oz (ouch!) and when we left he was 7 lbs 13 oz.  When we went for our first doctor's appointment at 5 days old he was 7 lbs and 13.5 oz.
Cole is wearing newborn clothes and diapers.

BREASTFEEDING: Speaking of Cole's size..when we went to the doctor he was SO pleased with Cole's weight..which made my mama heart so happy.  The doctor said his weight is "amazing" for a breastfed baby since they typically lose 10% of their weight and that would've put him more at 7lb7oz.
He's been breastfeeding like a champ since the moment he was born and homebody doesn't miss a meal.  He typically goes an hour and a half to two hours between feedings for about 20-25 min, but just recently has started making 3 hour stretches but is eating more like 30 min. each time.

SLEEP: He's also a pretty good sleeper.  I feel like its hard to tell so soon, but he basically sleeps and wakes up to eat.  Usually after his morning feeding (9/10 am) he will usually stay awake for a solid 20 minutes.

first day home -- 3/23

LOVES: Cole L O V E S being swaddled.  I'm talking as soon as you start that first fold he's instantly calmer.  He also loves to be bounced..specifically when we hold him horizontally with his head in one hand and his bum in the other.

HATES: Being cold!  Which means every diaper/clothing change is quite the screaming fest.  But can you really blame him for disliking get undressed all the time. ;)

MILESTONES: first outing to the doctor's office 3/26, first sponge bath, newborn pictures 3/28

off to Cole's first doctor appointment

PLACES HE'S BEEN: doctor's office

PERSONALITY: His personality so far seems to be very sweet and calm, only crying when he's hungry or cold.  BUT I'm interested to see how it'll develop as he gets older.

WHO HE LOOKS LIKE: He most definitely has his daddy's nose and ears, and possibly my lips.  At first, in the hospital, I wasn't so sure who he looked like, but as each day passes we agree he looks more and more like his daddy.  And thats what almost everyone says when they see him.  During my pregnancy I was hoping for a mini Thomas, and it seems that wish is coming true.  OH and he was born with brown hair, but everyday its getting lighter and lighter...we might be getting a little ginger after all.
daddy's mini me

THINGS I DON'T WANT TO FORGET:
  • he snorts when he cries
  • when he gets really excited/frustrated when I'm starting to feed him he will start to bang his head against me (kinda like bobbing for apples, haha) over and over and then scrunch his nose
  • at night when he gets the hiccups he squeaks and sounds like a little mouse.  oddly enough when he has the hiccups during the day he doesn't squeak
  • his forehead wrinkles (like in the first pictures)..literally my favorite expression he makes and has since day 1

hands down my favorite picture so far

Jackson Cole Timmerman

JACKSON COLE TIMMERMAN
March 21, 2018

8 lbs 4 oz
21 inches

March 21st is hands down the best day of our lives, when our piece of heaven hand picked by God himself joined us earthside.  Jackson Cole you are so loved.

coming home 3/23 -- even though he looks upset here he LOVED the car ride home

He's here!  Y'all I can still hardly believe it and our sweet boy has already been with us a little over a week.  AND I'm even more surprised that he came 4 days early.  When I was working on our last bumpdate I mentioned that it was hopefully the last one little did I know that the next day when I had the post scheduled he'd make his early appearance.  And what a surprisingly blessing it was.

I'm still working on Cole's birth story and a week one update.  But until then enjoy all the baby spam on instagram.  Happy Thursday babes.

Baby T Week 39

Hello Maternity Leave!! I've been off since Friday and it's been so nice to have some extra time to relax and prepare for baby before he actually gets here this past week.

Also, this will be most likely b my last bumpdate post!  whatttt!  At today's doctors appointment we'll talk about induction and although I'm pretty positive it won't be until sometime next week I don't plan on announcing it on here until after the fact.

SO with all that said, lets get into it...

Due Date | March 25...any day Baby T!!

Size | At 39 weeks Cole is about the size of a small pumpkin or beach ball.

Gender | It's a BOY! {see our gender reveal here}

Name | Jackson "Cole" Timmerman

Symptoms |  Swollen feet/ankles are here to stay, under my ribs hurts depending on his position, "lightening" and A LOT of pressure really low down...ow!  Oh also a couple weeks ago I noticed I have a small stretch mark on my left love handle which of course I'm not thrilled about but it's not the worst thing in the world.  I am curious if it'll go away or not though.

Cravings |  ice ice baby.

Hormones | still pretty fiesty but also tears come easier when thinking about Cole joining our family pretty much anyday now.

Weight |   157 lbs

Clothing |  hello maternity leave and hello all the leggings and pajama pants.  holla!

Sleep | definitely hitting a more uncomfortable stage, and I'm having a harder time falling asleep at night and then usually up for an hour around 3 or 4 for pretty much no reason at all.  BUT now that maternity leave is here I can at least sleep in later to catch up on that sleep I'm missing.

Nursery |  If you've been following along on Instagram (@maryjean_xo) I've been sharing updates here and there.  I hope to hang up 3 pieces today and have one final project to finish up hopefully today and tomorrow.

I just can't wait until there's a little baby in that nursery.  eek!

Purchases | Pretty much done with all the major stuff here.  Although before our first beach trip this summer I do want to get a baby monitor.  I just have no idea which one to go with.

Best Moment of The Week |  Thomas and I went to a Florida Baseball game on Sunday and it was so much fun with deliciously overpriced food and they won!

Looking Forward To |

Hospital Bag Checklist - First Time Mom Edition

Alright I asked y'all on instagram if you wanted me to share what all I've packed in my + baby T's hospital bags or wait until after I share my thoughts then and the poll was 50/50.  AND a lot of y'all messaged me saying you were interested in both the before and after.  So here we are, part 1 of our hospital bags.
Before packing our bags, I did a lot of "research."    And by that I mean, I used a checklist on my nurture app, asked for your input on instagram, read blog posts and talked to my friends that are already mommies.  And below is what I feel confident and comfortable bringing to the hospital.
Disclaimer: I am more than aware that I have probably over packed (I know this from reading all the minimalist packing posts I've read) BUT I would much much rather have more than we need than wish I would've brought something and didn't or forgot it.
Last thing before diving right in - I have linked things where I could if you're interested in the specifics.  ENJOY!

MY HOSPITAL BAG:
  • black maternity leggings (these and these are my faves) + loose pajama pants
  • loose tshirts - I've heard black and loose are key for post-delivery
  • nursing tanks + bras
  • nursing pads
  • cardigans
  • robe
  • slippers
  • "if you can read this bring me wine" no skid socks  -- fitting for the occasion
  • cheap flip flops for the shower
  • my own towel
  • toiletries/make up bag
  • camera + iPod
  • all the chargers (camera and phone with a 10ft cord)
  • baby book
  • large pads and depends (I've heard depends are like THE. BOMB. so we shall see?)
  • snacks
  • water bottle

I plan on bringing the boppy as well, and should probably just go ahead and stick it in the car too.  Also, I know there's a lot of suggestion for the husband to have a bag, but Thomas insists he doesn't need to pack one and he'll grab a extra pair of clothes at the time if he feels like it so there's that... haha.

BABY T'S HOSPITAL BAG:
[shop my diaper bag here]
  • Coming Home Outfit and Hat (in newborn and 0-3m just in case)
  • extra outfit in both sizes just in case as well -- I was suggested to me that we bring footless outfits due to the foot bracelets baby wears while in the hospital
  • premie outfit -- I really doubt he'll wear this considering 3 weeks ago he was measure 6lbs9oz but again just in case.  Plus, I don't want to unpack the bag at this point.
  • Personalized Baby Blanket and Hat
  • Baby mittens and socks
  • Pacis - although I'm not so sure how early I want to introduce them yet
  • burp cloths
  • nursing cover -- I won this in a giveaway and probably won't use it but plan on keeping it in the diaper bag anyways
  • diapers and wipes -- again the hospital should have these for us, but I plan on just keeping them in the bag

And considering I am officially 39 weeks as of yesterday, yes our bags are already in my car along with the car seat (eek!).  But some of the things need to be packed up at the last minute, so I have a list on my phone to remember to grab those items quickly.
That's a wrap folks.  My hospital bag and little mans, all ready to go.  Anything you think I should add?  Happy Monday...oh and happy maternity leave to me!!!

Baby T Weeks 37-38

Due Date | March 25

My guess this whole pregnancy was that he'd come late, specifically the 31st.  BUTTT in a effort to be completely real with y'all (and myself when I look back on this) I definitely wouldn't mind if he came any day now.  And I never thought I'd wish he'd come before 40 weeks, but it's real life ya know...

Size | According to the apps he is approx. the size of a spaghetti squash, but it also says he might weight almost 7 lbs..and according to our growth scan 2 weeks ago he was pretty close to 7 lbs then so who really knows at this point.

Gender | It's a BOY! {see our gender reveal here}

Name | Jackson "Cole" Timmerman

Symptoms |  Swollen feet/ankles are here to stay, under my ribs hurts depending on his position, "lightening" and A LOT of pressure really low down...ow!

Cravings |  ice ice baby.

Hormones |  same old, same old...I can't believe we're getting so close!

Weight |   +37  total so far (+2 this past week) and the sound of that kills me, BUT  the doctor is still okay with it, I'm healthy and Baby T is healthy so that's all that really matters.

Clothing |  This past weekend I found 2 pairs of maternity pants from my SIL (go figure this late in the game) and have been wearing them to work.  Other than that I'm just ready to be on maternity leave so I can live in whatever sweatpants and leggings still fit at this point.

Sleep | I'm still sleeping pretty good besides all the peeing.  I did catch a cramp in both of my calves last night that straight up sucked!

Nursery |  If you've been following along on Instagram (@maryjean_xo) I've been sharing updates here and there.  I have a couple projects I hope to work on this weekend, but nothing major.  I just can't wait until there's a little baby in that nursery.  eek!

Purchases | Just a couple clothes I've found on sale and some Easter books.  Oh, and some snacks to take with us to the hospital.

Fun Fact | At 38, Cole's hair and eyes both have color.  And I'm dying to know what he's going to look like.

Best Moment of The Week |  My parents came down to help us get ready for Baby T and were such an awesome help.  We did ALL the baby laundry, made freezer meals and just spent time together.  They are the best!

Looking Forward To |  Maternity leave starts Friday after school...woohoo!!  I can't wait for some time just me and Thomas, time to do some last minute cleaining/organizing, AND most of all resting.

Next Apt. | March 21st
