Eat Drink & Be Mary: January 2017

C U R R E N T L Y + G O A L S

Y'all, can you believe there is only one more day of January.  It's so cliche but literally every month I can't believe how quickly time flies by.  Although, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm already dreaming of days spent by the pool and no alarm set on my phone.  Summer, are you there?

Okay, so maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself.  But can you blame me?

So, with a wrap of this first month it's time to catch up.  These "currently I'm..." are some of my favorite type of posts -- to write and read --and then I'm going to recap my January goals and talk about m Feb. ones too.  So let's dive right in...

jeans | Forever 21 (similar) // boots |

Currently I'm..

Drinking: Coffee, coffee, coffee.  This answer basically never changes.  I'm drinking a lot of water with Mio also.  And I'm trying to only drink one diet soda a day.  So far, so good.

Cooking/Baking: I've been experimenting quite a bit lately, and already shared a couple of those recipes (here and here).  The next recipe I have my eye on (and have already bought the ingredients for) is this Blueberry Banana Muffin recipe -- although it should be notes I've been wanting to making these for the last two weeks.  *insert eye roll here*

Wearing: Thanks to our spring going on summer weather here lately, I'm not having to bundle up too too much.  And I'm not mad at it.  So in attempt to still be wintery, and accommodate these warmer walks this off the shoulder chunky knit sweater and ripped jeans.  Love.  And Thomas gifted me these boots for Christmas...I'm totally obsessed.

Feeling: Ready to tackle this months goals.  Bring it February.

Buying: Loreal Infallible Blender | NYX Blender | NYX Banana Powder | Maybelline Better Skin Concealer ..and this is only the tip of the ULTA haul I did the other day.  Oops.  ;)

Excited About: ummm, like I said above we don't have any real plans in the near future.  but hey, I'm not hating it.

Pinning: praying for your husband efficiently and effectively //  adirondack chair plans // and this quote

Thankful For: a weekend with no plans.  EVERY. SINGLE. WEEKEND. of January we had somewhere to go or someone visiting.  And as much as I love my friends and family coming to visit and going out of town to weddings, your girl just needs some down time.  Sleeping in, staying in my PJs all morning, relaxing and enjoying my hot coffee.  Yesssssss.

And now that we've caught up a little on what I've been up to this month, let's jump to those goals...

So last month I shared my 2017 goals, and used those as my January goals as well.  And let's just say I did ehh, not that great.  I mean not terrible, but I didn't nail it.  But I'll be working on these all year long.  So here it goes...

+ drink 100 oz of water a day | I've done very well most days.  But I haven't kept track of the actual ounces I just no I've been drinking glass after glass of water.

workout 6 out of 7 days a week | miserably failed.  must. do. better.

+ blog 3x a week  | like I said, not terrible not fantastic.  I mainly need to just work more on the weekends and schedule ahead.

eat healthier | I'm actually really proud of myself on this one.  I could do a little better, but I've cleaned my eating up a lot.

declutter + organize the office  | So last week (you saw this if you follow me on snapchat: mary_timmerman), I came home from work and Thomas had cleaned out practically our entire office.  Sweet, sweet man.  SO the decluttering was nailed thanks to him.  And I told him give me two weeks to know how I want to organize/decorate the that'll sorta lead into February.  But stay tuned for an update.

be more present on social media | I've done a lot better since the end of 2016, but I want to increase it even more.

+ keep track of the # of oz of water intake each day

+ workout 6/7 days a week

+ get down a good skincare routine (cause I ain't getting any younger..amiright?!)

+ finish decorating office

+ wear more lipstick (I've been buying so much lately I need to put it to good use)

Happy Monday y'all.  Send January out with a bang and let's take on February like a boss.

And as always make sure you're following along on my social medias below and snapchat - mary_timmerman.

Mueller’s® Pasta Matchmaker | Turkey Noodle Soup

Honestly, I feel like I've been spilling the beans on here about how lazy I am.  But truthfully, after I get off work I'm straight up exhausted.  But I mean aren't we all?

So just keeping it real, I like to find hacks that truthfully do the job.  AND do the job well.  Yesterday, I shared a way to have smoothies ready to go for the week.  And today I'm sharing another gym I found just recently.

Y'all know that baking is totally my thing, BUT my sweet hubby has dawned it my job to be the cook as well. Lord help us all. So when I found out there was a Mueller’s® Pasta Matchmaker (because we all know how much I love me some carbs), I knew this was the key to making a successful, delicious meal.

This "pasta matchmaker" really is the coolest idea y'all.  Not only do I not have to worry about what I'm going to make for dinner.  But it legit lays out all the ingredients you need, and step-by-step instruction for what to do.  AND AND AND when you take the handful of questions it caters the recipe to your lifestyle -- such as how many people you're cooking for or the occasion.

real life: watching YouTube while I cook

Literally, so excited about this.  And, I was matched with a delicious recipe that even works with the healthier lifestyle we are working towards (but no worries, there's delish mac n cheese recipes too).

SO let's dive in.

16 ounces Mueller’s® Wide Egg Noodles
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1-1/2 cups frozen chopped vegetable seasoning blend (onion, celery, bell pepper)
1 cup sliced carrots
2 cups ground cooked turkey
32 ounces reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
salt to taste

1. In a medium sauce pan, melt butter and add all the vegetables until they are tender.

2. Add turkey meat to the vegetables and cook on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.

3. Add the chicken broth, noodles, pepper and parsley to the sauce pan.  Bring to a boil, and then cook on low for 7 to 10 minutes, until noodles are tender.

*I did this a little longer and the noodles soaked up pretty much all of the broth.  It was super delish this way just not super soupy.  So I'd recommend adding extra chicken broth or really watching how fast the broth is evaporating/getting soaked up.

These noodles can easily be found at your local BI-LO on the pasta aisle.  There is a picture at the bottom of this post for reference.

Alright now it's your turn.

Take the pasta matchmaker quiz and let me know what recipe you get in the comments.  Then you can enter the Pasta Matchmaker challenge, where you put your own twist on and submit for the chance to win prizes.  Contest dates are:
 Challenge #1: January 1 – January 21
Challenge #2: January 22 – February 4
Challenge #3: February 5 – February 18
Challenge #4: February 19 – March 4
Challenge #5: March 5 – March 18
Challenge #6: March 19 – April 1.

Honestly, I can't wait to try this out again.  I mean hello.  The matchmaker literally took all the thinking and work out of planning for dinner.  Please and thank you.

Take the matchmaker quiz and let me know below what recipe you get matched with.  I'm super interested to see what all recipes are on there.

Tips for Quick Smoothies | Blueberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #SameSilkySmoothTaste #CollectiveBias

If you ask me the hardest part of sticking to that healthy lifestyle you made as your new year resolution?  It's snacking.  I can make healthy dinners (even if I'd much rather be devouring cupcakes), I can get in the routine of going to the gym.  But snacks get me every time.  And if you don't know I'm a huge snacker -- where I eat smaller meals and snack in between.

So this year I'm determined to be prepared for those hunger cravings strike.  My trick?  Smoothies.  I am such a huge smoothie lover, but the prep work turns me off.  But you know what they say failing to plan is planning to fail.

So, I've already admitted if it's going to take basically any work that smoothie isn't happening.  Call me lazy but after a day of dealing with middle schoolers, doing the prep work for the smoothie just isn't happening.  Quick and easy, and most likely unhealthy is what's going down.

BUT I'm seriously determined to eat healthier (1 successful week down, 40 something to go ;), so I've got two tips to share that have been working for me.

Tips for Quick, Smoothies On-the-Go:

1. Prepare the smoothie in the blender.  Pour smoothie into mason jar, seal tight and store in fridge.

Smoothies are ready to go for the week.  Seriously, so dang easy.  The only downside is that the smoothies are really only good for about a week.

2. Measure and slice the fruit/veggies needed for the smoothie and put them in an air tight sandwich bag.   Freeze.  *note: do not all liquids at this point

Ready for a smoothie?  Dump the sandwich bag in the blender add almond milk or your liquid of choice, and boom smoothie ready.  This tip works great for smoothies that won't be used in the next week or for fruit about to go bad.

Blueberry Banana Smoothie Recipe:

1 cup of Frozen Blueberries
2 Bananas
1/2 cup of Silk Almond Milk, unsweetened*
optional: add 1-2 tbsp of Silk Yogurt **

*Something to keep in mind when searching for this product at your local Walmart -- I've included a picture below, however, shortly they will be changing the packaging sometime soon (mid to late January).

** This is a sweeter smoothie.  SO, I occasionally add yogurt for a thicker consistency and more tart taste.

Instructions: Blend all ingredients in a blender thoroughly.  And enjoy.  Or store for later in the week.

Side Note: on that healthier note, I've been adding the Silk Almond Milk into everyday use more and more.  Mainly cereal or eggs, but hey it's a start.  Now I'm not about go to completely dairy free, but I'm looking to substitute it when I can.

So I wanna know from you two things: one what's your favorite, go-to smoothie recipe? two how do you include dairy free option into your lifestyle?

DIY Football Themed Mason Jars | Cricut How To

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #TheNewFanFavorites #CollectiveBias

Y'all the big game is coming up and before we know it it'll be here.  As in, less than three weeks away.   So, I'm here to talk about some easy DIYs you can do to get ready for the game.  And some good ole snacks, but cause lets be honest I'm only watching the game to enjoy the snacks and commercials.

So onto the DIY.  Today I'm breaking down how to "slice" and create cut-outs on Cricut Design Space.  Once you go through the steps, you'll see how easy this DIY actually is.  And I promise the more you practice the better you'll get.

Step One / Select the image you want to start with I chose a football helmet.

Step Two / Choose a font you'd like to use (or another object would work as well).  I used Magnolia Sky.  And place it where you'd like on the original image.

Step Three / Select the text and image and choose the "slice" button.

Step Four / Remove old text from the image.

Step Five / Measure where you want to put the decal, and adjust the width/height of your image.  And boom, you're done.  Happy cutting friends.

Now that we've got the DIY tutorial down (practice it, and I'm telling you you'll fall in love), it's time to talk about the fun stuff.  Snacks.

Like I mentioned above I'm really here for the food and commercials.  Especially, because my year totally sucked it up this year and isn't showing up.  *Insert eye roll here*  So we're focusing on the important stuff.

Before I've made different snacks, but this year I'm spending my time on the crafts (seriously, these mason jars #allthehearteyes) and making it quick and easy with the food.

Snyder’s of Hanover® Pretzels | I went with the "sweet & salty" flavor.  These are totally my vice as of latley, and I feel like it's a totally looked over flavor.  Trust me, try it.  You won't regret it.  Pour bags out into these mason jars for cute and quick party prep.

Pop Secret® Popcorn | Popcorn is definitely Thomas' go-to literally any day of the week.  So it was an obvious buy for the game.

BUT, of course that's not all we'll be scarfing down between commericals.  Looking for recipe inspiration?  Click here.  What else should I have -- keep in mind I'm going for quick and easy -- at our big game party?
