Eat Drink & Be Mary: November 2016

C U R R E N T L Y //

Currently I'm..

Drinking: Coffee, coffee, coffee.  The closer we get to Christmas break the more I need caffeine, and the more I wish my sweet sixth graders would lay off the caffeine. ;)

Gingerbread Cupcakes | Christmas Sugar Cookie Truffles | Cookies n Cream Oreo Bark (recipe to come soon)

Wearing: This top (under $13!!) is all sorts of amazing.  It is super comfortable and I love the "turtleneck" for transitioning to the winter/Christmas season.  OH, and OTK boots.  I'm loving me some boots lately.

High Neck Keyhole Cold Shoulder Tshirt | SheIn, Burgundy Skinnies | American Eagle (old), OTK Taupe Boots | JustFab

Feeling: Merry and Bright. ;)

Buying: All the Christmas gifts.  Friday I'm posting a not-your-typical gift guide, so make sure to head back over to see some of the things I've had my eye on.

Listening To: A L L the Christmas music.  I recently downloaded Brett Eldredge's new Christmas album, love.

Excited About: Basically everything about December.  We have a bucket list we plan on working through this year.  My friends are coming to town this weekend, and I'm going to see another friend the next.  Christmas break will be here before we know it.  Here's to sleeping in and waking up to the sight of my Christmas tree and a good cup of warm coffee.

Pinning: gifts in a jar / "because I am the teacher..." mug / caramel marshmallow popcorn

Thankful For: all of you!  Thanks for reading loves.

Happy hump day loves.  Can you believe it's the last day of November?  Me neither.  And yet, this most wonderful time of the year is among us.  Cheers friends.

A Countdown to Christmas Bucket List

Growing up my mom had this Santa that had 25 pockets.  Each pocket had a number counting down the days to Christmas and in each pocket was a TINY book to read.  Our own little version of an advent calendar.

Thinking back on all my Christmas memories as a child, it inspires me to create new memories as a married couple and start traditions that will carry on as our family grows.  So this year, I've decided to make a list.  A list of Christmas activities to do throughout the season, to create memories, start traditions, carry out traditions we had in our separate families, and fully enjoy this season of hustle and bustle.  All while remembering the reason for the season.  An advent calendar.  A bucket list.  A Countdown to Christmas.

Christmas Bucket List Ideas:

1. Watch a Christmas movie.
{check out these pins I found and am totally doing to add to our several movie nights: here and here}

2. Pick out your Ornament for the year.
{last year we decided one tradition we would start was picking out an ornament each year.  I had already gotten one for 2014 when we got engaged, and we were gifted several "our first Christmas" ornaments last year.  I also, got one to represent us finally living together (LDR probs) in our new-to-us home.}

CONFESSION: I've already wrapped the ornament for this year for Thomas to open, and I've honestly forgotten what it was.  *face palm*

3. Christmas Wrapping Party.

4. Operation Christmas Child.

5. Pick out your Christmas Tree
{another tradition we've started is picking out our tree when we go to the mountains (my home) for Thanksgiving.  There's just something about being able to pick out your tree right from the farm and having someone cut it down--opposed to picking it out of a parking lot like Thomas was used to.  Growing up in the Christmas tree county I've never known anything other than picking out our very own fresh Christmas tree, and I'm excited to carry out this tradition for years}

6. Decorate the Christmas Tree while listening to Christmas music.

7. Make your own homemade hot chocolate.

8. Pick out a Christmas decoration to add to your collection.
{I have my eye on adding a piece to our Christmas village and light up deer to put in our front yard}

9. Bake Christmas Cookies.
{my personal favorite?  sugar cookies but I plan on making these as well.}

10. Make Gifts for your co-workers or your kids' teacher.
{several ideas I'm looking at: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 }

11. Go look at Christmas lights.

12. Watch Christmas Vacation.
{I know I've already mentioned watching movies, but this movie is our fave and it deserves it's own mention. What's your must watch Christmas movie}

13. Candle Light Service.

14. Chinese Gift Exchange with family or friends.

15. More Christmas Baking.
{recipes I plan to make: gingerbread cupcakes | Christmas rice krispies | chocolate peppermint truffles | M&M's Christmas cookie bars}
16. Build a Snowman.

17.  Get coffee/hot chocolate and walk around downtown.

18. Go ice skating.

19. Have a snowball fight.

20. Mail out your Christmas Cards.

21.  Have a game night, like this Christmas Carols Pictionary.

+ and which each day I plan on also reading a scripture verse.  there are literally TONS of lists out there already setup to read each day that I'll choose from, but the idea came from this pin.

Other Notes:
+ Last year after Christmas I bought this advent calendar tree with the cutest little glittery doors to open as we count down.
+ Each day we'll open the door that'll have an activity to complete, movie to watch, or present to open.  I already have several Christmas movies recorded on our tivo (not to mention what on demand and netflix have to offer) as well as a few presents/chocolates wrapped for different dates.
+ The ideas above aren't our exact bucket list due to Thomas' work schedule some nights I'm on my own watching more Christmas movies ;), some of these things we've already completed (cutting down our Christmas tree and decorating it), and some things we'll just have to happen more than once.  Which leads me to...
+ I plan to share each night (on snapchat, are we friends?) the different activities we do.
But in the meantime, share ideas that you and your husband/family enjoy each season in the comments.  I'm always looking for more ideas to add to this holiday season.

My Grown Up Christmas List

Y'all, I am seriously in total shock that it is the week of Thanksgiving.  Seriously.  I know it's totally cliche, but it's crazy to me that 2016 is almost over.  Regardless, two days stand between me and five days off.  I can hardly wait.

And even though we're just now in the midst of the true holiday season, my jolly self has been jamming to Christmas tunes and the halls have been decked since the first week of November.  But now its "socially acceptable" I'm sharing my Christmas wishlist today.

Operation Christmas Child

poncho | maruices
OTK boots | just fab
"if it includes" tee | ruby's rubbish
blanket scarf | Jane  (similar)
sunglasses | romwe

Oh Monday, we meet again.  AND tonight is the super moon, which means all the kids will be cray cray all day....greattttt.  But hopefully I survive the school day, and I'm pretty sure my first red cup of the season will be 100% deserved after school.

Have y'all heard of Operation Christmas Child?  It's ran by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization, and they send out shoe boxes all around the world to children.  Not only do these shoe boxes have necessities and fun toys, but they bring with them the hope of Christ.

Thinking of OCC brings back so many childhood memories.  My mom would take my brothers and I to the dollar tree, and we would pick out all sorts of goodies to fill our boxes.

And this year I'm looking forward to filling a box with Thomas to send.  After I get that much need red cup of caffeine, will head on over to the Dollar Tree and continue the tradition.

Have any of y'all heard of Operation Christmas Child before?  Does your family participate each year?  Check out this post on more ways to give back this season: here.

Make sure to follow along on snapchat.  And keep your eyes out for more Christmas posts to come.  I have so many good posts in the works.

One last piece of business, I asked on snapchat if y'all would wanna see a Q&A and y'all responded with a big ole "yasss."  So head on over there (mary_timmerman) to send me your questions.  Pretty much anything goes. ;)

Buying Lately {makeup edition}

Hard werken zodat u kunt moeilijker handgeschreven door planeta444:

I mentioned earlier this week, in my virtual coffee date, that we're almost finished with our Christmas shopping for friends and family (eek!), and this makes me over the moon giddy.  I have love love loved picking out each gift for our loved ones, and am excited to get started on shopping for T.

BUT, in the mean time I have also been doing some major damage while adding to my beauty collection.  Calling it collection would probably be a stretch, well up utnil the beginning of October, anyways.  Then my youtube obsession began and thus my ever growing collection of makeup.

So, today I'm sharing what all I've been buying lately thanks to recommendations of my fave youtubers. And while I splurged on a couple items I'm really more of a cheap-but-still-good-quality kinda girl.

 It should be noted I'm no makeup guru myself, but I am slowly learning and will let you know what I thought of each product for the price tag.

Also, another shipment should arrive today, so while I can't give my review I wanted to include them anyways.

He said we're going for our shopping trip end of the mth! After i'm done with the big items over next two weeks! Woohoo! Thanks for spoiling me, hon!:

NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer | $15.99

NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss "Beige" | $4.99

t o o l s //

review: I've had the real techniques sponge for a while and love it, and these mini ones are fantastic for under the eyes, concealer and around the nose.  100% worth the buy.

review: I use it to brush away the setting powder under my eyes.  And I can't get over the $3 price tag.

review: $3???  And yes, yes, yes.

review: love and only $4

review: I don't have acne but the youtuber mentioned she just used it when she noticed a blemish or break out starting up and it worked like a charm, so we'll see.

I bought all of these items through Ulta online (except the Revlon foundation I picked up last night at Target).  I personally like buying from Ulta because it earns me points.  Those points truly suck me in.  I currently have enough points to get $17.50 off an order.

One other reason I love using Ulta is that I can always return the products after trying them if I don't like them.  Of course you can't actually use the product then try to return it, but if it's the wrong color or I am just totally turned off I can return it.  Can you do that at other stores?  I don't even know.  Let me know below.

I'm thinking of using them towards the tartelette palette "in bloom".  Any suggestions what other products I should use my points on?

Y'all, it's time we catch up.  I keep thinking of things I want to blog about and then next thing I knew I haven't shared a new post.  Teaching definitely has me on my toes this year, but thank God my year is going so so much better this year.  I really am enjoying my students and what I'm teaching.  What a relief!

Anyways, since it is time to catch up (because I looked back and saw I only blogged 5 times in October -- what?)  I figured we better do it right...yep, over coffee.
So join me for a little virtual coffee date won't you?

If we were having coffee, I'd either be ordering an iced psl with skim milk and splenda or pulling my "fall essentials" mug out of the cabinets from my sweet mug swap partner Stephanie.  Several of y'all asked about the mug on instagram and it can be found at The Scribble Studio.

If we were having coffee, I'd confess that I've been blaring Christmas music for the past couple days and convinced Thomas to pull out the Christmas decorations this weekend.  Y'all.  This makes me so happy.  I'm working on making my mantle a little different than last year, and can't wait to create something new.  Aka: I'll be hitting up Target and Hobby Lobby after work today.
And if you're wondering the tree and outdoor decorations won't come until after Thanksgiving per the husband's request.  But that I can deal with.

last year's christmas home tour
If we were having coffee, I'd ask you if you've also already started decorating for Christmas?  And if you've started your Christmas shopping.
Because, (and I'm totally giddy about this) we are almost finish with our friends/family Christmas shopping.  And yes, last night I started wrapping!  I love knocking this out and not having to worry about this later.  Not to mention it frees up time to enjoy all the hustle and bustle this time of year brings.  And I'll still get to participate in more shopping for Thomas and through Black Friday (duh!).

If we were having coffee, I'd let you know that I've been watching so so many youtube videos lately.  Mainly make up videos (here | here | and here) and have bought SO much makeup because of them.  I'm thinking of doing another "buying lately" post soon, and including the makeup I've bought on recommendation and loved from those youtubers.

If we were having coffee, we'd talk about how I'm so thankful for election day tomorrow.  Not only will all this political talk be over (or will it just be getting started?) BUT that means we don't have school Tuesday.  Making today my only workday until Wednesday...holla!  *insert raise the roof emoji*

If we were having coffee, I'd ask you what kinds of posts you are hoping to see on this year blog (because yes I'll be showing up, I've got lots to share) this holiday season.  Recipes?  Fashion?  Gift Guides?  Let me know.

A photo posted by Mary (@maryjean_xo) on
Lastly, if we were having coffee, I'd realize that like usual I've chatted your ears off (which usually happens when I finally get to talk to adults rather than 11 year olds) and haven't asked you what's going on with you.

So please, catch me up below in the comments.  What are you hoping to see on the blog this holiday season?  Have you started decorating yet?  What is your favorite store to get holiday decor from?

Make sure you're following me on snapchat and instagram because I'm always good about updating those with random daily happenings.  Happy Monday loves.
