F I V E on F R I D A Y

Lately it feels like it's all I can do to keep my head above water.  Between trying to unpack (yes we are still living outta boxes) and fully move into our new house, adjusting to newlywed life, and working a full time job that seems to never end, it's seems blogging has taken the back burner these days.  And I just hate that.  It's not that I don't have some pretty awesome things to share with you.  I just need to get adjusted to this new life.  A life that I do love, but is insanely busy.  To all of you that have been doing this blogging and full time job thing..kudos to you.  Seriously, amazed.
ONE || Home Sweet Home

We are still making slow progress in our home, and I'm loving it.  I've officially filled a closet with my clothes.  We have a TV stand, and our guest bed is up.  Also, I canNOT wait to start decorating for fall.  Too soon?

TWO || Girls Night

My best friend (aka: my MOH earlier this month) is coming to visit this weekend and I can't wait!!  It'll be the first time she's come to our house.  I haven't seen her since the wedding and I could just burst with excitement.

THREE || Greys Anatomy

I've been watching Greys Anatomy like crazy now that Thomas and I have Netflix.  I just started the 11th season and am determined to finish before season 12 starts September 24th.  Anyone else love this show?  Don't ruin anything for me in the comments though.  But I will say I'm loving Jo and Alex and they better end up together.  There's much more I wish we could discuss but I don't want to ruin anything for anyone else behind like me.

FOUR || Pumpkin.

These pumpkins can definitely make their way to my front porch this year.  Definitely going to be checking out this tutorial.  And I wouldn't mind if the "T" decor showed up at my house either...just saying.

FIVE || Catapults.
We built catapults in class this week.  6th graders and catapults...but no one got hurt.  So there's that...

Happy weekending loves.  Keep up on Instagram (@maryjean_xo) & Snapchat (@mary_timmerman)

Her LIP BALM Be Poppin'

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carmex. All opinions are 100% mine.

No, actually my lip gloss balm is poppin'.  I believe I've mentioned it before, but I'm kinda a lip balm fanatic.  As in, I have one everywhere.  My desk, make-up bag, in the car, my night stand.  I must have access to it at all times.  Ain't nobody got time for dry lips.

Carmex Moisture Plus has a ultra-hydrating formula that keeps my lips feeling soft all day, without so much of the obsessive reapplication.  So I can keep my lips moisturized and poppin' at all times, and my theme song can be this.  Anyone else always wanted a theme song?  No, just me?

Not only does Carmex have a killer formula to keep your lips soft, but they also have fashionable package designs.  With designs inspired by the season and colors from Pantone's official color forecast, these babies are seriously cute.  Their designs are so cute, you no longer have to keep your lip balm hidden away, but can flaunt it.

Now I don't know about y'all, but I love having a product that people compliment and ask where I got it from.  It's like receiving an award for excellent shopping.  #girlwin And not only does this happen with my Carmex lip balm, BUT I feel even more excited when I get to respond that they can buy Carmex Moisture Plus at Walmart, Walgreens and Dollar General.  And the best part, it's only $2.49 -- a great deal, easily accessible in the checkout lane.

I'm not one to brag, but let's just say that I'm feeling extra confident going back to school (today, eek!) with these stylish lip balms in tow.  Maybe it'll score me some points with my sixth graders?  Hey, one can hope! ;)

And now I'm off to paint my nails.  Happy smooching y'all.  (Tell your men I said your welcome for your extra soft lips.)  ;)  Oh and a little sneak peek of the fall/winter styles that will be coming out this October...you're welcome again.

Eat Drink & Teach 6th Grade

Usually I will be sharing updates on our wedding on Wednesdays.  But with the lack of wedding pictures yet, I thought I'd update y'all a little on what's been happening behind the screen over here at Eat Drink & Be Mary.
+ I've successfully made it through two days of teaching sixth grade.  For those of you that don't know I graduated with an elementary education degree, and teaching sixth grade is the highest grade I can teach.  In totally unrelated news, keep me in your prayers the rest of the school year.  ;)

+ I cooked for the first time in our house last night.  Velveeta mac 'n cheese.  Just call me Chef Mary. ;)  #housewifestatus
+ We are making s l o w progress but progress nonetheless in our new home.  My job has definitely put our progress on a slower time line but things are coming along nicely.  Some projects I hope to get done my December...yes, it make take that long.

+ I recently read that Starbucks will be making the ever-so-famous PSL with actual pumpkin this year.  While being all-natural is good and stuff, I'm just saying it better still taste just as yummy.  Don't mess with my pumpkin spice latte Starbs.

+ I've been spending a lot of my time on Pinterest lately.  Mainly looking up classroom decor and project ideas.  But every once in a while I wander over to home decor (notice my to-do list above) and food.  Because well, the recipe section is always on point on pinterest.  And seriously, do not these loook amazzzzing?

And that's off folks.  I'm off to mold the minds of our future, oh and make origami jumping frogs so that should be fun.  What is up with you lately?  Let's connect, I feel like it's been forever and I've never even met you before.  #i'mweird

Why I LOVE Being Engaged

Hello, Eat Drink & Be Mary readers!! My name is Ashley and I blog over at Girl Talk, where you can pretty much find anything but my favorite topic is Weddings! Thank you so much Mary for having me today!

This is a time in my life I have been dreaming of since I was a little girl; it has been the most perfect 12 months of my life and we have 3 more months to enjoy this wonderful time. We decided to have a long engagement and it was the best decision we ever made.

Timothy and I got engaged on Saturday July 26, 2014, you can read all about it here, while we were vacationing in Delray Beach, Florida. I have had some amazing experiences while being engaged, so here are just a few of the reasons why I LOVE being engaged!

Wedding Dress Shopping

This was my absolute favorite day and I got to spend it with some amazing women. My two sisters, my two grandmothers and my mom's best friend and her daughter, which so happened to also be one of my sisters best friend. It was an AMAZING day. The only part that was missing from that day was getting to share this wonderful moment with my mom. I had always dreamed about what my dress would look like and it was everything I could have hoped for and more! I can't wait to wear it again, but for real this time!

The Parties

Now, I love a good party and what better time to have as many parties as you possibly can than during an engagement! We have had two parties so far: Engagement party that was just with our family and the bridal party and then a Stock the Bar Party that my dad threw us with our friends! My absolute favorite part was the planning of the Stock the Bar Party and all the DIY decorations I got to make! My MOH just gave me the most spectacular Monograms & Mimosas Shower back in June! We are also planning on having a bridal shower my mom's best friend is throwing me in October with my side of the family and a bridal shower Timmy's cousin is throwing me with his side of the family in November. Parties are my favorite because I get to spend time celebrating my love with all my closest friends and family!

Registering for Gifts

So I might have gotten a little "gift happy" but I just had no idea what to put on our registry. It was a lot of fun though because we literally spent one whole Sunday looking online and just clicking "Add to Registry" It was just so much fun looking at all the china and bedding and deciding what we wanted to start our life with. It was a little nerve racking because there was just so much to choose from!

Picking the Bridal Party

This was one of the easiest decisions thus far; I knew from even before I was engaged who would be standing up next to me on my big day, I had my girls I just needed a groom. Picking our wedding party was the beginning of the process. Timmy and I were going to California to visit with 3 of the girls that were in my wedding party just about a month after we were engaged so I jumped on planning on how to ask them! Asking all the girls was the first thing I did and it made everything so much easier because they all jumped right in and starting celebrating and helping me plan my wedding. Picking your bridal party means you are picking some of the most amazing people in your life and that means all your parties are going to be amazing because they are going to be there and you know you can count on them!

Envisioning your future together

Timmy and I can't wait to start our new life together. We are starting a new chapter and talk about it often, we can't wait to see where God takes us in our life.

Charleston Honeymoon

Wedding Wednesday is back, and I can't wait to start recapping our wedding day.  It was seriously the best day. ever.  But today, we're talking about the fun that happened after we officially became Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas and I honeymooned in Charleston and it was a blast.  Due to his work schedule (which ended up working out perfect for my future work schedule) we couldn't take a week long trip, and it was still a blast.  Not to mention we have plans for next year around our anniversary.

So on to the honeymoon...

(and yes, the pictures are all outta order)

We had so much fun being tourists in Charleston, going on a sunset dinner cruise, eating at S.N.O.B. (so delicious!), going on a carriage ride, and so much more...

the most amazing dinner!

C U R R E N T L Y ;

Happy Monday loves.  Today is my first day of work.  Say a little prayer for me as I'm sure I'll be overwhelmed and stressed with all that a new job entails.  And while I'm consuming my weight in coffee and trying to not pull all of my hair out, I thought it was time I caught you guys up with a little currently I'm...

So let's get to it shall we?

Drinking: Now that I'm living in the hottest place on Earth [not an exaggeration ;) ] I need all the water I can get.  I plan on taking the hugest bottle of water with me to work everyday so I can refill all day.

So True! Oh my it is soooo HOT!

Wearing: Today is the first day of my new job.  Back to work clothes I go.

Wanting: My living room to look like this..no?  Too much to ask?

Feeling: overwhelmed.  try moving states, moving into a new house & starting a new job all within a week.  blah.

Eating: leftover mall chinese.  it's seriously my fave.

Listening To: Let Me See Ya Girl by Cole Swindell

Loving:  Married life.  We may have only been married a week, but there is nothing I love more than doing life with my sweet Mr.  Living with Thomas, and not hundreds of miles away is a dream.

Excited About: Teaching 6th grade this fall.  As crazy as it will be to start something new, I know it'll be rewarding and totally worth it to see those little minds learning and growing.

Admiring: the o n e wall in my house that has any decoration.

Saying Good-Bye To:  my old last name...hello new last name.

And that's it gal pals.  It's been way to long since we all caught up, tell me what's up with you?

I'M BACK (with 4 announcements)

You guys, I'm back!  After a little break, that was much needed, I'm ready to share so much with y'all.  It's August, like..what!?  How?  When!  So since I'm sure y'all can't believe we're already into August either, let's get on with today's five on Friday.

ONE || WE'RE MARRIED!
I can't believe August 1st has come and gone, and now I'm a Mrs. to the sweetest, finest ginger there is.  Thanks so much for putting up with my babbling about the wedding for the past 8 months.  This space will no longer be flooded with wedding talk anymore, with the exception of Wedding Wednesday where I'll recap our wedding..aka: the best day ever.

TWO || I'M A TEACHER!!
Eek!  I actually have my own classroom, and will be teaching in a couple weeks.  I can hardly believe it.  With that said, please pray for the little minds I will be molding day in and day out this coming year.  And on that note, say a couple prayers for me too.  Ever taught 6th grade?  Send me your ideas, advice, pins on Pinterest..help this new teacher out!

THREE || I'M A CAROLINA GIRL
Well, I guess I was before too.  But I now live in SC with my new husband, and boy is it HOT here.  Nothing, like the mountains I'm used to.  As in today was 89, feels like 99...whoa baby!

| the home t sc post |

FOUR || GROWN UP STATUS
Thomas and I are officially entering the grown up world now that we're on our own.  And it is something else figuring out what we need, where to put it, and how to make it feel like home.  We are still up to our necks in boxes, but I'm loving creating this home with T.  We've already repainted and Thomas refinished the floors.
That being said, I can't wait to start SO many DIY projects for our house, I hope Thomas is prepared for his honey-do list. ;)

peace out mustard yellow

FIVE || That's all folks...
Well, that's all the announcements I have for now.  Life is sure is throwing a lot at me lately, but I'm ready to take on all these new changes.  Follow along on snapchat (@mary_timmerman) | insta | twit.

Tips for Succeeding in Marriage after a LDR

Marriage is an adjustment no matter how prepared you are. For my husband and I, the biggest adjustments came with moving in together and getting to know each other on a deeper level. We found that there were a lot of daily habits that neither of us were aware of before or that we didn't realize would affect our relationship the way they did. If you have ever read our love story (I'll wait while you go read it if you haven't), you know that Joe and I lived two blocks away from each other, so our relationship was anything but long distance and we saw each other every day. Even so, because of my educational background, career choice, and the fact that Joe and I didn't live together when we were married, I feel like I can safely say that these four things will set long distance couples (and really anyone for that matter) up for success in their marriages.

Talk About Expectations

Don't just talk about the obvious topics, talk about the little things. They may seem petty now, but they could become huge issues later on! Share your expectations for finances, intimacy, religion, and future family size. How will you split up household chores? Who will be in charge of cooking dinner? What TV shows and movies will you watch in your home? Do you want pets? What do you want to do when you retire? Don't just think about the here and now, think far into the future. Keep a list of things you think about throughout the day and discuss them the next time you see each other or when you chat on the phone that night. Joe's biggest pet peeve is people who brush their teeth outside the bathroom. If I'm brushing my teeth in the bathroom, he's fine, but the minute I walk out of the bathroom to slip on my shoes, grab my phone, etc. he gets annoyed. I never would have known that if we hadn't had a random conversation before we got married.

Schedule Time Apart

I know, I know, you just spent weeks, months, or even years apart, and you want to spend every minute possible with each other. I completely understand! Quality time is my love language and with our busy schedules, I look forward to every moment that I get to share with Joe. I can promise you though, if you don't take any time for yourself, you will start to miss your freedom and the days when you were on your own doing whatever you wanted every day. Those are the moments that you want to avoid in your relationship, they don't end well. Pick a night every week where the two of you plan your own thing. Go out with the girls/guys, spend the night with your favorite book/movie/meal/treat/hobby that your spouse may not enjoy, or spend time in opposite sides of the house and work on your own projects/watch your own shows. Maintaining your individualism while becoming one as a married couple is possible, and important!

Communicate Openly

One thing that I always feel like Joe and I are pretty good at, is our communication. If one of us has a problem with something that the other has done, we are completely comfortable letting them know. We may not always been the most civil about it, but we've learned that talking about an issue when it first comes up is a lot better than waiting to discuss it after it's been on our mind and we've let it silently irritate us even more. Good communication isn't just for problems in a relationship. Like I said in the first tip, talk about everything, leave no stone unturned! Your relationship will be stronger, you'll adjust more easily to living with each other and you'll learn more about yours spouse than you ever thought there was to know. Don't be afraid to share what's on your mind, but be willing to let your spouse do the same and respect what they have to say in return.

Be Patient

Relationships take work, and no marriage is ever perfect. You can be constantly bettering yourselves and working toward your idea of perfect on a daily basis, but realize that it's not going to happen all at once. Some moments are going to be frustrating and others will be extremely rewarding. Enjoy the journey that you're taking through life together and live without any regrets. Be patient with yourself, be patient with each other, and be patient with your relationship! Marriage is going to be an adjustment, but marriage is the best big change that you can ever make in your life!

How To: Pack for your Honeymoon

Hi, everyone! I'm Christina from The New Mrs. where you can find me talking about anything from everyday life including my husband and new puppy as well as travel adventures, a little bit of fashion, a pinch of home decorating and some recipes.   Some of my favorite topics were sharing my wedding planning and wedding recaps as well as now talking marriage.

I'm so happy to be filling in for Mary while she celebrates her wedding and new marriage!  I just hit 11 months of marriage - the big one year will be in early September and I still love talking anything wedding related.  My husband and I honeymooned in Bora Bora and I had to be sure not to pack too much because our bags couldn't be heavy but I didn't want to miss out on packing all those exciting Mrs. items and things with my NEW monogram on them.

Mary might have just tied the knot but I know there are still many gals out there who will be walking down the aisle shortly so I thought I could share a few of my honeymoon essentials packing items.

Mrs.
You've been waiting all this time to make the switch from a Miss to a Mrs. and now it's time to enjoy it.  Part of the excitement to me was having some little accessories that said Mrs. on them to enjoy on my honeymoon because what better time?!

Mrs.

Monograms
Let's be real - who does not love a monogram?! I was so excited to get a new stash of stuff with my new monogram on it and the first time I was able to use that was… the honeymoon, of course!  Accessories with your new monogram on them make the perfect "special thing" to pack on your special trip.

Monograms

& More
It can't be all the cute little things - you need to pack the essentials too.  We were away for 13 days so I tried to pack as little as possible to save space but still have everything I need for two weeks away.  Depending where you're going, here are some other items you might need for your first trip as Mr. & Mrs.

Carry-on essentials: airline tickets, passports, credit cards/traveler's checks/cash, confirmations for hotel reservations and excursions, guide book, extra outfit - just in case

In the suitcase: Enough outfits (mixing and matching clothes works well), extra bathing suits and coverups, underwear, a light sweater, flip flops, comfortable walking shoes, a pair of wedges, heels

The fun stuff: camera with extra battery and memory card, sunglasses, pool floats, cross body bag, an evening clutch, a couple favorite jewelry items, cosmetics, bathroom bag, hair accessories, an outlet converter, sunscreen, insect repellent, beach bag, straw hat.

Just in case: small first aid kit, tide to go pen, ziplock baggies (for liquids or wet bathing suits), advil

For him: I knew if my then fiancĂ© didn't get a little help then he'd most likely forget something he needed and we were going to be in a very remote area where we most likely wouldn't be able to get a replacement SO - I made a little list for him of what to pack and set out some time to help him through the process.

Thanks so much for having me today, Mary! I cannot wait to read all about your wedding once you're back! I hope you all enjoyed today and will pop by The New Mrs. and say hi sometime.
