Eat Drink & Be Mary: December 2015

2015 in Review

2015 was undoubtedly one of the best years yet.  Working in a kindergarten classroom with my mom, planning our wedding, moving to SC and so much more.  With Thomas and I getting married, it'll be a year we'll look back on with fond memories years to come I'm sure.  So here's a little look back on this amazing year, I can only imagine everything 2016 has in store...

JANUARY :: right after getting engaged (last December) January was a busy, busy month.  I said "yes" to the dress, took our engagement pictures, missed MANY school days thanks to the snow.  An amazing to start to this memorable year.

Christmas Decor Wishlist

Happy Monday loves.  I hope you had the merriest Christmas of all.  I know our first Married Christmas was one I'll never forget.

Decorating our house for the first time was magical and so so much fun.  I seriously wish I could leave up the decorations (and tree) all year long.  Did you catch our Christmas Home Tour?

And it's no secret I'm a big fan of wish lists, so here's my wish list of Christmas decor I hope to scoop up on sale post-Christmas to add to our home next year.

Also, I'm really wanting some more Christian Christmas decor.  Mainly a nativity scene.  Any suggestions where to find a cute one?

Christmas Home Tour

So if I'm being completely transparent our house has been decorated for Christmas since November 1st.  With it being our first Christmas I am L O V I N G decorating for the first time and slowly adding to the decor we have.  I wish I could have you all over to our home to watch Christmas movies, eat Christmas cookies and show you this merry little house we live in.  But since that's not possible I'm taking you on a Christmas house tour today.

A full list of where I found different decor pieces will be at the bottom of this post.

What is your favorite decor piece?  When did you start decorating this year?

No-Bake Cookies (and a giveaway)

Growing up I can remember making and eating these cookies countless times with my mom.  So naturally when it came to this year's cookie swap I knew I wanted to send a family favorite.

Confession: I'm not a cookie girl.  I'm just not a huge fan.  These cookies, however, are one of my faves.  I'm not a huge chocolate fan either, but even though these cookies may look like chocolate overload they aren't.  They're a mouthful of oatmeal and peanut butter with just a hint of cocoa.  And the oatmeal add just the right amount of texture to the cookie.  The perfect balance if you ask me.

There is just something about a "no-bake" cookie that I fall in love with.  (see also; no-bake oreo truffles)  And I have a feeling you and your family will fall in love with these delicious cookies as well.

2 cups of sugar

4 tablespoons of cocoa

1 stick of butter

1/2 cup of milk
1 cup of peanut butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 cups of oatmeal
Wax paper

1. In a medium sauce pan combine the sugar, cocoa, butter and milk.  Stirring occasionally.
2. Bring to a rolling boil, and then let it boil for one minute.
* I have found it's easier to add the next ingredients if you simply turn down the heat rather than take the pan off the heat completely.
3. Add peanut butter, vanilla and oatmeal (adding the oatmeal one cup at a time).  Mix thoroughly.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Scoop out teaspoon sized cookies and drop on wax paper.
6. Let cookies cool and enjoy!

*Disclaimer:  Occasionally these cookies come our runnier or dryer than desired.  As far as I've found there is nothing to prevent this, sorry.

I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as my family does.  What is your favorite Christmas cookie to make during the holidays?  Do you like to participate in cookie swaps, or any blogger swap for that matter?

Cheesy Ranch Potatoes

With holiday season in full bloom I know we're all in search of quick and easy recipes to whip up for a week night meal or when family comes to town. Today what I'm sharing isn't mine but Thomas'.

I'll let y'all in on a little see Thomas is the real cook around these parts. While I may cook during the week, HE is the one that is actually good at whipping up something tasty and creative for us to enjoy (now baking is a total different story). So today I'm having Thomas take over to share his recipe for bite-sized cheesy ranch potatoes.

These cheesy potatoes are the best side dish to add to any weeknight meal.  Or in Thomas' case anything that's been grilled to perfection.  According to Thomas these mini Red Potatoes are a must, and I'd take his advice if I were you -- delish!  However, if you have normal sized potatoes those will work as well.

Red Potatoes
Kraft Ranch Dressing
Kraft Natural Shredded Cheese (8oz)
Bacon Bits

1. Cook potatoes in the microwave until "baked".  (This is a Thomas shortcut, but if you have the time feel free to bake them in the oven as normal).
2. Cut each potato in half.
3. Put slits on the inside of each potato and add a slice of butter, letting it melt into the potato.
4. Top each potato with a dollop of ranch, TONS of cheese (the more the better if you ask me), and bacon bits.
5. Bake the potatoes at 350 for 3-5 mintues, until the cheese is melty and gooey and ready for your to devour.

You guys, is my man not a genius.  These potatoes are not only super easy to make, but they're absolutely delicious.  Don't take my word for it (heck don't even take Thomas', although you should), try it out for yourself.  Your friend and family will thank you.

Not to mention you can get $1 off when you buy 2 8oz Natural Shreds & Chunks, from 12/13-2/13.

Head on over to Walmart to pick up your Kraft Natural Shredded Cheese and whip up a quick and easy week night meal.  What is your favorite week night meal?  Is cheese your favorite food group, too?  For more ideas for recipes to make with Kraft head over here.

Welcome to a new week of Delicious Dish Tuesday, where we share our recipes and ask you to share YOUR awesome recipes with us!  Last week we had some delicious looking recipes shared, I love finding all these new recipes to add to my "to-do" list.  This past week my favorite recipe was shared by Debbie @ One Little Project.

Debbie seriously nailed it with these SUPER CUTE, festive and easy treats.  I'm thinking about making the reindeer for my students.  So of course I have to feature both of her treats she shared this week.

These polar bear paw cupcakes are easy to make and they look ADORABLE! They'd be great for a Christmas party, teddy bear picnic, or as a fun winter treat!

These chocolate covered marshmallow reindeer are so cute and SO EASY! And if you use dark chocolate, they actually taste amazing too! Simple and adorable!

We Wish You a MARRIED Christmas

You guys, picking out, addressing, and sending out our first Christmas cards was truly surreal.  And I know that may sound a tad bit dramatic, but I've seriously been dreaming of sending out my own Christmas cards for years.

Our Christmas Cards | Paperelli

Since this is our first married Christmas I knew I wanted to incorporate it into our Christmas Cards, and as soon as I found this Etsy shop I knew I wanted these cards.

Thomas agreed to the punny saying, and then all we had to do was choose 3 pictures...which proved to be a littler trickier than expected.  But Courtney was a dream to work with.  She quickly made any changes I requested (as in less than 24 hours), and is truly a talented woman.

Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with decorating our office?  I'm all about making our house feel like a home, and our office definitely needs some personal touches.  And the office isn't the only room I'm wanting to add personal touches too, I've asked for different pieces to fix up our guest room as well.

This being our first married Christmas, I've had so much fun picking out presents for our families and for Thomas.

Making a wish list is always fun and even though I don't expect to get everything on my list there's no harm in wishing.

Not to mention being able to spend Christmas for the first time in 4 years with my husband is amazing enough.  This is the good life y'all.  Merry Christmas (well almost).

Christmas Traditions for You and Your Man

I've always been a girl who loves traditions!  Holidays and birthdays make my heart so happy because they're perfect times to embrace traditions and go all out in celebrating!  I've been married now for four and a half years and, in that time, my husband, Nate has realized that he just needs to go with the flow when it comes to my traditions.  He's wisely realized that it's totally not worth trying to change my mind about things like traditions.  He knows he'll lose.

Christmas Traditions For You and Your Man

During the past four and a half years Nate and I have had fun figuring out our own traditions and now we're bringing our one year old son along for the ride!

Are you looking for some ideas for you to do with your man to celebrate the season?  Here are a few great options that Nate and I love!

Go Out to View Christmas Lights
Whether you want to stay bundled up in the comfort of your car or want to brave the cold and go for a walk, viewing Christmas lights is a special time with your loved one!  I think it's absolutely romantic to drive around with hot cocoa, listening to Christmas music, and looking at the gorgeous light displays.  I'd highly recommend looking up the best decorated houses in your area and planning out a whole evening to visit them all.

Year 3

Go Christmas Tree Hunting
I'm a total advocate for chopping down your own real, live Christmas tree.  I know not everyone has the ability to do that where you live but, for those of you who do - especially those of you in the Pacific Northwest - there is no excuse!  Bundle up, head to the Christmas tree farm, and find your perfect tree!

Decorate Your Tree
After you've gone out to hunt down your perfect live Christmas tree (or even if you use a fake tree) it's such a special time to decorate it with your loved one.  String up the lights, place the ornaments one by one, and - of course - place the star at the top!  Maybe make this the year that you start getting ornaments with a meaning so that, in years to come, you can have fun remembering all the wonderful adventures the two of you have been on while decorating.

Kiss Under the Mistletoe
I'm sure your guy would be thrilled if you hung a mistletoe somewhere in your house and pulled him close each time you passed under it.  He may very well plant himself under that mistletoe just wanting for you to stop by!

Visit Santa
Have you been naughty or nice this year?  Either way, going to visit Santa is a great tradition to start with your honey.  Not only is it a great photo opp, it's a fun time for your man to hear what it is you want for Christmas without having to actually tell him.  Win-win, right?

Go for a Walk in the Snow
If you live in a place where it snows you NEED to make sure to go on a snowy walk with your special guy.  There's something so romantic about everything covered in a blanket of snow.  Everything is so quiet and, typically, there aren't very many cars or people out and about.  It's a perfect time to have a heart to heart chat with your love and we all know how special times like that are!

Bake Christmas Cookies
Christmas is the perfect time to bundle up at home and bake!  Get your kiddos involved (if you have them) and put some cookies in the oven.  If you're feeling a little frisky you could even start a food fight!  Times spent cooking together are so special to me!  When you're baking make extra sure that Christmas music is on in the background!

Go Ice Skating
We're not lucky enough to have an outdoor ice skating rink nearby.  If you are, that's definitely what you should do!  If you're not, look around and see if there are any indoor rinks!  Once you're skilled enough it's pretty fun to go skating around hand in hand with your man!

Your Turn:
What's your favorite Christmas tradition to share with your guy?
