8 Keys to a Long Distance Relationship
I'm in a Long Distance Relationship. If you come around these parts very often [read; ever] you know that my ginger boyfriend and I have been loving from afar, aka: in a long distance relationship, for nearly a year now.
And before you ask, yes it's hard and yes it's worth it.
In the past year I have learned so much about myself, my boyfriend, and what it takes to make a relationship work even when you are long distance. I've learned 8 keys to make a LDR work because sometimes you're meant to be distance or not.
It all started, a couple years ago, with a cute ginger and a girl who didn't want to be tamed. With a little bit of time and patience, we were head over heels, falling for each other more every day...

Say hello to this month's sponsor, Chelsea!

Girl, I've already told you before how much I can relate to this situation. And the one thing I can agree on since I've been living this life with my man too is this: "Yes it's hard and yes it's worth it" I feel like it has allowed me to grow and also my boyfriend to grow and learn responsibilities on his own as well. The times spent together are even more precious and cherished and our love has only gotten stronger. Here's to making it through LDR's!!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I were in a long distance relationship for over a year. It definitely had its challenges, but we made it through, and we're closing in on year 4 together (our anniversary is in December). Y'all are so precious together, and I'm glad y'all are able to make it work with a few miles in between.
ReplyDeleteSame with my gf. So I engineered a locket that moves when we hold it at the same time. Like the idea?
ReplyDeleteMy fiance and I were in a long distance relationship all through college (4 years!). Now we are together and it is so worth it. This is a great list! Keep your head up, you are stronger because of these hard times :)
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship now for about a year and a half. It's extremely hard but we're making it work! I hope you guys make it work as well!!
ReplyDeleteI truly don't know how you do it! I have never been in a long distance relationship so I can't relate but you are a very strong lady :)
ReplyDeleteI did the long distance thing for a year before my husband and I got married--it's hard, but if you're both committed to making it work, it definitely can! So glad to hear that you've found the secrets! :)
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on your blog not long ago and I've been loving it...even more so now that I'm realizing that you too are from NC! Woohoo! I'm an AppState grad and a Pre-K teacher. Love your blog!

That sentence pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole "long distance relationship" deal, but we're making do. I do think that this time apart will help us in the future, and has already helped us grow in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely treasure our time together more, in fact I'm headed his way Friday! Eek!!
Too cool! I love finding bloggers that our near by; are you still near App? It's so exciting to find bloggers that I have things in common with too. I work in a kindergarten classroom, one of the most exhausting yet rewarding jobs there is.
ReplyDeleteI'm no expert, but we're figuring out things as we go. We're committed for sure, just waiting for the timing to work out.
ReplyDeleteIt's not for the faint of heart, but when it's the right person it's worth it. :) Thanks for the encouraging words.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Olivia. If you have any tips or advice I'm always game!
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely SUCK at long distance. I'm such a clinger lol
ReplyDeleteCurrently in a long distance relationship so I can definitely relate to this! I love some of these ideas- especially the date night! My boyfriend and I have been long distance for 2 years now and this year we are trying to talk every Monday night. It really helps to have a set time, because it takes away all of the planning and hassle of finding a time that works for both of you! A lot of the time our stupid little fights were about finding time to talk. Going to check out the 5 Long Distance Date Night Ideas post!! :)
ReplyDeleteNo, I moved back home to the Charlotte area where I'm from. I'm heading up to Boone this weekend though for the football game though :) I student taught in Kindergarten in Watauga Co and loved it! You can also find me on Twitter at @ashleygirl10
ReplyDeletelong distance relationships can definitely be worth it...but ours definitely put my husband and I on a mission to find a way to be able to live in the same place asap (hey, we had a joint goal!) because being able to hang out with your guy in real life is way more fun. Still, emails and cell phones are a life saver during long months of not seeing each other!
ReplyDeleteSuch great tips! I never had to live long distance but I'd say any of these tips are relevant for couples who see one another every day, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Tiffany. It's tough but worth it, and we're always finding ways to make it easier during the process. I love hearing people you've made it through and are still together, so reassuring!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, even being in the same place communication (and several of the others) can struggle!
ReplyDeleteReal life > distance -- hands down! Thank God for the technology-based society we live in. This makes it way easier to keep in touch even with the distance.
ReplyDeleteDate night, is definitely the highlight of my week and I love that it's possible while we're apart. We definitely struggled with talking (other than texting) as well, and I found the best way was for me to just call him on my drive home from work/dance. It's about a 15 minute drive, but twice a week ontop of texting throughout each day and it solved it all.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed the date night ideas; anything you could add?
My dad (apparently) always thought I was a high maintenance girl friend (with time, not money) until this long distance relationship. Trust me with the right person it's worth it! I'd much rather wait until we can be together than already be with someone else all the time.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, such a small world! What school if you don't mind my asking. I was actually out of town when you came into town, haha.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend lives in Charlotte now, and I LOVE visiting. The night life is so much fun, but I could never live in the city (too much traffic!).
Indian Trail Elementary, so technically Union County schools :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with all of these. My husband and I were in a long distance relationship for a year and then he moved to Colorado. We were 1000 miles apart, so it was always a plane ride once a month. Four years later, lots of Skype calls, phone calls, plane tickets, moving to different states, marriage and a little baby boy on the way.. it was all worth it!! Your blog is now one of my must reads :)
