5 Winter Essentials Every Girl Should Own

Winter is here y'all.  Fall lasted all of about a month, and then ole man winter just straight up took over.  Without even asking if we were ready to freeze our buns off.  #rude

If you think I'm exaggerating today (Tuesday) the high is 22.  The high.  And it's currently 18 degrees, if you don't hear from me for a while just know it'll be because I've turned into an icicle or something from a scene in Frozen.

It's time to embrace the freezing temps and dress accordingly.  Bummer.  But this year I'm determined to live in more than yoga pants + oversized hoodies.  Anyone else guilty of this come December?

ONE. "Over-sized" [aka: Dolman] Tops + Sweaters.
The Dolman top is perfect fit this winter paired with skinny jeans.  The Shopping Bag (my newest online find) has the cutest Dolman tops.  I'm obsessed with my newest shirt from them, and can't wait to get my hands on this one.

The Dolman Top: a perfect go-to for Thanksgiving + Christmas dinner outfits -- disguising the post-feast food baby one Dolman at a time.

TWO. Tights/Fleece Lined Leggings
The secret to transitioning your dresses into the winter season?  Throw some tights/leggings on underneath + boom you look like the warmest snow bunny there is.

THREE. Cable Knit Scarves
Cute + Cozy.  What more could you ask for?

FOUR. Leather Jackets/Winter Jackets/Vest
The more layers the better.  Fact.

FIVE. Boots
I know I've mentioned my obsession with Jane.com at least once or twice (read; wayy too manyy times) on this here blog.  Butttttt I found these boots for $35, and just had to share.  Color me tickled pink.  Such a steal!

Now the test is to see how I'm holding up in January.  What's your vote -- will I still be rocking the Dolman tops, tights and booties or will I be covered in blankets, still wearing the same yoga pants & oversized sweatshirt from three days ago.

My 5 Go-To Winter Essentials:
1. "Over-sized" [aka: Dolman] Tops + Sweaters
2. Tights/Fleece Lined Leggings
3. Cable Knit Scarves
4. Leather Jackets/Winter Coats/Vests
5. Boots

**you may notice that a couple of these are also in my go-to fall essentials; but one month of wearing those essentials is just not enough!

What are you Winter "go-to" items?  Dont' forget you can get 25% off with code EATDRINKANDBEMARY @ The Shopping Bag.

  1. I just purchased my first fleece lined leggings from Jane.com (per your recommendation of that website which I'm not LOVING) and I'm obsessed. I need more! As a girl who wishes she could wear skirts and dresses all year long, I will resort to leggings over jeans any day. :) Thank you for the suggestions! I really do need fashion help for the winter months...

  4. Those boots are so cute! I love them! And I seriously laughed out loud at the dolman top for the food baby comment. Sooo true, why have I never thought of that?!

  5. I'm terrible about wearing yoga pants and sweatshirts. That top is so cute and I've been dying to get my hands on one of those scarves!

  6. LOVE the boots. I saw them on Jane.com (I have a similar obsession), but was afraid to buy them because I'm super short and have bigger calves that don't fit in all boots. Love them, though! And I've never tried a dolman shirt. Do you think you can get away with wearing leggings with those? I absolutely hate jeans (always have) so anything I can wear leggings with are a-ok, as long as the top/dress is lone enough to cover the nether regions ;)

  7. I've been going crazy over the cozyness (word?) of fleece lined leggings! I just need to find me some cute dolman tops to go with them :-)

  10. While I do get tired of the cold and the heat of Texas can be overwhelming... I do love the clothes of Fall/Winter.

  11. wow that top is pretty amazing, i think i need to go get it! Here is Florida it doesn't get that cold, today it was 40 and i felt like i was in snow. LOL i know i know

  12. Yes to all of the above! I'd love to live my winter out in yoga pants, but it's too cold! A pair of yoga pants and sweats works out kinda nicely though as PJ's. :P

  13. I only have one pair of fleece lined tights but definitely need some leggings. Do you remember which store it was from on Jane? It's it the coolest site?! Leggings way better than jeans for sure!

  14. I need some more tunics as well, I love how versatile they can be. Oh yes, my Thanksgiving wear will be loose!

  15. Thanks, gotta love the sales on jane.com.

  16. I love how unique the print is, and combined with the discount it's a pretty good deal!

  17. Oh yes, tight clothes on Thanksgiving are a no-no!

  18. I am too, but this year I'm determined to wear some other clothes as well. The scarf is so so cozy; I got it at Old Navy and they have tons of color options.

  19. I'm pretty short and have bigger calves as well (thanks to clogging), and got the size I generally get in boots. My boot size is a good 1-1.5 sizes bigger than my shoe size to fit my wider feet/calves but these boots fit just the same as my others. I just wear thick socks if they're a tad big in the foot.

As for the dolman shirt and leggings, 100% yes. These shirts are perfect for leggings! They cover the front and the back well in length; I don't think you'd have anything to worry about. Agreed, leggings > jeans. :)

  20. Where have you got your leggings? I have fleece lined tights, but am wanting some leggings just haven't decided where to buy them. Definitely grab you up some tops; the flow of the shirt pairs great with the leggings/skinny jeans.

  21. Maybe we can help each other not fall into the yoga pant-rut. I need to go read that post right now! Thanks for stopping by love.

  22. I feel the same way Stephanie. I just like my fall/winter clothes better than my summer ones. Although I do hate being cold!

  23. Oh my, 40 would be pretty warm here right now. We went from such beautiful fall weather to freezing temps TOO fast! This type of shirt is great for this time of year though (especially your 40 and above). Not to mention that 25% off code will make it a great deal!

  24. I definitely plan on using my yoga pants as pajamas, but out of the house I'm determined to not look like a bum 24/7. Glad you can relate. :)

  25. I only have one pair of the fleece as well, but I need more. I need some fun prints, so if you ever see a huge Jane sale or any other great sale on some printed ones, PLEASE message me! Haha. My favorites are tribal prints. I actually don't remember the name of the store...I'm sorry! I'm just really glad you introduced it to me, the newbie online fashion shopper.

  26. Major yes to the cable knit scarves!
No way I could survive winter without mine.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agreed Andrea. I already have three, and can't wait to get my hands on more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh bummer, no big deal. I will definitely tell you when I find a pretty good sale. Jane has an app, and a daily email (and yes I get both, shamless ;) ) that helps me keep up with the sales.

I REALLY want some tribal prints, but doubt I'll like them on...I have a thing with legs (I blame it on the dancing, or eating...whatever). You would look so cute in them.

ps. do you have a twitter? I feel like I looked before and couldn't find it.

  30. Great list! I need to get some fleeced leggings! I've been eyeing on some cool designs!

  31. Yea that would be fun! Maybe a "No Yoga Pant January" ? Or something like that? We could do a link up like that :)

  32. Oh those mountain winters! I miss them! Love that top :)
