Eat Drink & Be Mary: Cake Batter Puppy Chow

10.07.2014

Cake Batter Puppy Chow

Today's the day.  The day I turn 23.  Twenty-three.  Sounds old doesn't it?  Well not old, but as my brother put it I'm "one year closer to 30."  Sweet.  And yet here I am still living with my parents...

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with food?  None.  Duh.

Side note: I also plan on celebrating with Starbucks and a fresh manicure.

Cake Batter Puppy Chow Recipe

Ingredients:
4 cups of Rice Chex Cereal
10 oz package of Candiquik (or any other melting chocolate)
3/4 cup of Yellow Cake Mix
1/4 cup of Powdered Sugar
Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:
1.  In a microwavable bowl, melt the Candiquik every 30 seconds.  Stirring in between.  (about 1.5 min)

2. Add the rice cereal to the Candiquik and stir it in, covering the cereal in the melting chocolate.

3. Pour the powdered sugar and the cake mix in a gallon ziploc bag.  Shake to mix.

**add sprinkles to the mix for extra festiveness.

4. Add the cereal to the gallon bag, and shake until covered.

5.  Use a slotted spoon (or sifter) to remove the rice cereal without getting all the excess powered sugar-cake mixture.

6.  Devour, because yes that's what will happen.  ;)

This puppy chow is like you straight up licked the bowl while baking a cake.
No joke.  Legit; cake batter.

Now if I can make it until 3 o'clock I'll be off to begin my birthday celebrations.  Party of one.  The perfect me day.  Bring on the psl, pampering, and possible Chipotle.  Happy birthday to me!

What is one thing you would've told your 23 year old self?

disclaimer:  Even though my life may not always be as I thought it would be, I am completely content with who I've become and how I've gotten here.  I love living at home (for now) because I know there are memories being made that I'll never forget in a lifetime.  Blessed to live with such a loving family, not to mention rent-free. ;)

  2. Yay! Happy Birthday, honey!! I hope you have a fantabulous day!! <3 Well, if it helps, I was still living with my parents at 23. (I also feel like I'm still about 23, so...) If I could tell myself one thing, it would be to enjoy living at home. Easier said than done, but something I really didn't fully realize until I was 26, just a few weeks before Daniel and I moved from there to NC. (Cause yes, we lived there for a year. :P)

I was still living at home when I was 23, too, so no worries on that front :) Although...I have to say--you are not old! haha! I know it feels that way as you inch further away from your college years (I felt the same way at the time), but now that I'm at the end of my 20s I realized how young I still really feel! <3 ENJOY your day sweet girl!!

I don't feel old, but I remember thinking what I thought I'd be doing when I was 23 and now it's here. Unreal how time flies!

  20. I'm definitely enjoying it, but find myself antsy to be doing other things as well. I know before I know it I'll be out on my own reminiscing on these times though. It'll definitely be hard to leave once the time comes though. Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  22. Happy Birthday Mary! What a perfect way to celebrate--CAKE BATTER! One of my biggest weaknesses! And don't worry--there's absolutely nothing wrong with living with your parents at this age--I still am, and I'm...26...but like you said, we're VERY blessed to be living in such loving families :) Have a wonderful day, birthday girl!

  24. Happy birthday girl!!! Oh wow, I remember saying when I was 23 I'm getting old but now being 27 that seems so young :) When I was 23 I'd say dont fret the small stuff or worry about where you thought you'd be because everything happens for a reason and you don't need all that extra pressure on yourself ;). Be true to who you are and know who your true friends are. Take advantage of all your milestones of your early 20s and because it goes by far too fast and before you know it...you'll only be 3 years away from 30 :) 23 is a great age and I know this will be a great year for you! Hope you had a wonderful birthday!

  26. There is nothing wrong with being 23, living with your parents. I think it's great that you aren't out trying to take over the world just yet. You have your whole life ahead of you to do that with.
    Happy Birthday!

  27. Hi Mary,
Just hopped over to your blog from Blog Love. Its my first visit. I must say I absolutely LOVE your blog set-up! It looks sensational. I was wondering if you might share who designed it for you? I hope you had a beautiful birthday too. One thing I would tell my 23 year old self is be selfish! Do stuff that you totally want to do and dont feel guilty. There will come a time when you have to put others first, but right now live and be happy! xxx

  30. Not trying to take over the world, but working on living life one day at a time without worrying about the future. Thanks for the birthday wishes and advice.

  31. Alicia, I'm so glad you enjoy the look of my blog. I'm tickled pink, in fact. The design was created by Aimee @ www.thisdarlingday.com, but she is not working on designs currently. Ashley @ www.thegritsblog.com just recently fixed it to be a three column blog, and added a couple things for me as well. She could probably help you, if you want to check her out she has a portfolio for you to check out. (Tell her I sent ya!)

Thanks for the birthday advice and wishes. Some of the best advice I've gotten thus far.
