Eat Drink & Be Mary: Apple Chips

Apple Chips

Fall is in the air.  Now it's time to bring it into your kitchen.  This recipe is easy peasy and will fill your kitchen with the most wonderful fall smell.  Heavenly y'all.
Not only will this recipe fill your house with the richest smells of fall, but it so super easy to prepare, delicious, and healthy shhhh!

These chips are perfectly crunchy, sweet, and apple-y -- if that's even a thing.  Plus I love that they are baked, not fried.  A delicious twist on a fruit snack that is still nutritious.  Now that's a win if I've ever heard one.
It's official.  I've found the perfect afternoon snack, that won't ruin all my workin' out efforts.  Yipee!

Ingredients:
2 Apples (I used Gold Delicious and Granny Smith)
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp sugar
Parchment Paper, Cookie Sheet, Mandolin

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.
1. Slice the apples using a mandolin to get really thin slices.

2. Place the slices on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper.
3. Sprinkle apples lightly with cinnamon sugar (or make your own with 1/8 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tsp sugar).

4. Bake in the oven for one hour, flip apples over and bake for another 45-60 minutes.  You want to dry out the apples and crisp them up a little.  They may look a little brown, but they are not burnt, it's just the apple drying out.

Seriously amazing and addicting.  And luckily, this time it's okay for me to be devouring them.  Healthy snack, win.  What is your favorite healthy snack?  What's your fall snack of choice?

  1. Wow, I never realized how easy it is to dry your own apples! My family owns an orchard so we always have a ton of apples--this would be the perfect way to use them other than just plain applesauce. Thanks for the idea :D

  4. Yum and they look so pretty. I don't think I would have thought to make them that pretty and uniform. Must pass on to older daughters so they can make.

  10. These are delicious and an inexpensive way to enjoy a tasty, healthy snack. I'd make them solely for the way they had my kitchen smelling...yum!

  12. The mandoline makes it so super easy to get thin slices, quickly. Such a life saver! I hope your daughters enjoy. :)

  13. Girl, trust me you can do these. You just need a mandolin and a couple hours at the house. It's worth it!

  14. Let me know how it goes. I just know you'll love 'em!

  15. So super easy Jillian. All you need is a couple hours while you're at the house, and better yet you just leave them to dry out so you can get other things accomplished. The way your kitchen will be smelling is worth it alone. Too cool that your family owns an orchard!

  20. Ooo, then I'm sure you can agree on the tasty-factor. Is this the way you made them, or do you have a different approach?

  22. AND I have some extra apples from this weekend that I might otherwise turn into a pie that I don't need to be eating right now hahahahaha

  23. Sounds perfect, although a pie sounds really tempting right now!

  24. I sometimes buy the most expensive locally made apple chips ever. Think it's time to start making my own. Thanks for sharing!

  25. Yes, that is the way I made them. I use my food processor to slice them, but other than that, it was the same :)
