Eat Drink & Be Mary: October 2014

It's All a Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Happy Halloween.  and TGIF!  What a happy day it is.  Our little kinders have been telling us what they'll be for Halloween since August, and today is the day they finally get to dress up!  Not to mention I'm off to Asheville for a girls weekend today.  Cheers all around, over here.  TGIF indeed!
Here are my five randoms things from this past week, and linking up with my favorite gals at Oh Hey, Friday! and Five on Friday.
ONE. [ as seen on Instagram ]

This quilted vest from Old Navy is perfect.  It's a great color for fall, and not puffy..yipee!  Plus being able to go apple pickin' and to the pumpkin patch with my favorite 5 year olds on Monday, in this festive fall get up, just made it that much better.  Who said Mondays have to be a bummer?

TWO. S'mores Fudge
A treat you need to make this weekend?  S'mores Fudge.  Seriously, you'll have everyone coming back for s'more ;)  I made it this past weekend, and it disappeared quite quickly.  So quickly that I plan on making it again for my family on Thanksgiving.
THREE. Hocus Pocus

I just had to get one more Halloween chalkboard in before my time ran up.  And I have to admit I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  I'm hoping to get some silver, gold chalk markers and a thinner white one in the near future.  It's amazing how much joy these little boards bring me.
FOUR.  A spy a little fox...
These fox socks are too cute, and a brilliant find at Target for $3.  I'm totally in love with how soft they are, and that they even have little ears on the socks.  Makes me giddy.  And Starbucks, of course.  ;)

FIVE.  Meow

And in honor of Halloween today, last weekend my clogging studio had our Silly and Spooky Halloween party.  I was dressed as a kitty/leopard with some simple stickers and kitty ears.  Thank you Claire's for having my back, money well spent.
What was the highlight of your week?  Any Halloween/weekend plans?
Don't miss out on my Asheville Halloween shenanaigans; keep up on Instagram @maryjean_xo.

You Know You're Getting Old When...

Earlier this month I turned 23.  Twenty-three years of life on this Earth, and I've still go so much to learn and experience.  But 23 on my side is a lot of years...

I'm not saying I'm old yet, but I am getting older.

Warning: you may find yourself nodding in agreement with some of these things listed below.  It's okay -- no need to get depressed.  Just go find your stash of chocolate and eat away...we will get through this together (I hope).

I can only imagine how I'll feel the day I turn 30...

1. You're completely find with being in bed by 10:30pm on a Friday night.

2. Waking up at 9am on a Saturday is considered sleeping in.

3. Thursday is no longer considered part of your weekend.

4. Your knees start hurting when you run.

5. Rap music often makes you cringe.

6. Breakfast for dinner is the highlight of your week.

7. You've gotten rid of your "club clothes" to make room for your work clothes in your closet.

8. The phrase "crows feet" has now begun to have more than one meaning.

9. You have to workout to actually be able to button your pants, no more eating anything you want.  Blah.

...when did this growing up thing happen?  #nothankyou

But more about those achy knees.  I've got someone here today to share a solution with us.  Three cheers for pain relief y'all -- the joys of getting older...sigh.

This is a sponsored post not written by Eat Drink & Be Mary.

Here is Some Serious Pain Relief That You MUST Try:

If you are like me I get aches and pains all the time and I do NOT want to keep wasting my money and my time on methods that don’t provide relief.  Massages aren't cheap!  Well, I have a solution that worked for me and it will for you too!

It called The Amazing Tennis Ball Back Pain Cure by Pain Management expert and creator of The BioMechanics Method® Justin Price.  The book shows you ways to use an everyday tennis ball (that costs less a $1 by the way) to massage away pain.  It doesn’t matter if you have pain in your feet, back, neck, hips, legs or wherever it hurts, the techniques in this book work!

My favorite thing is the tennis ball can go anywhere so you can do it at work, at home, at a friend’s, at the park, on a plane, alone or with a partner.  Toss it is your purse or bag and don’t be afraid to bust it out.

You can get this on Amazon here.

Delicious Dish Tuesday Recipe Link Up + Features

Welcome to a new week of Delicious Dish Tuesday, where we share our recipes and ask you to share YOUR awesome recipes with us!

First, I'd like to say how in love I am that sooo many of the recipes last week featured either pumpkin or apple recipes.  Tis the season y'all.  But my favorite of them all?  The recipe shared by The Sequin Notebook.

I've had a pumpkin dip once before, but have never ventured to make it myself.  Thanks to B over at The Sequin Notebook I am determined to make it this year.  Have you ever had such wonderfulness?

S'mores Fudge

This past week at my church they said it was Staff Appreciation week, and immediately I knew I wanted to bake them these sweet treats they'd be dying for s'more of. ;)

And honestly they're lucky they got to taste any of them; every time my dad went into the kitchen he snuck (as if that's a word) a couple more pieces of this amazing fudge.  Y' need this treat in your kitchens like now.

Who wouldn't want a s'more in fudge form, really?

S'mores Fudge (original recipe here)

What you'll need:
Graham Cracker Crust:
     4 graham cracker whole sheets
     2 tbsp butter
     1/4 cup of sugar

Chocolate Layer:
1 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips
1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk
     1/2 tsp vanilla

Marshmallow Layer:
1 cup of white chocolate chips
     1/2 cup of marshmallow fluff
1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk

What to do:
preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

1. Crush up the graham crackers in the food processor until they are crumbs.  Add melted butter and sugar and mix well.

2. Line a 8x8 pan with tin foil, and pour graham cracker mixture into the pan.  Press evenly to cover the entire pan, and place in the oven.

3.  Cook crust for 15 minutes at 375 F, or until golden brown.

4. Melt chocolate chips in thirty second intervals, stirring inbetween.  Add sweetened condensed milk (roughly, you can eye ball it) and vanilla.  Mix well until smooth.  Pour over the graham cracker crust.

5.  Melt the white chocolate chips in thirty second intervals.  Add marshmallow fluff and the rest of the sweetened condensed milk (the rest of the can).  Mix well, and add ontop of the chocolate layer.

6.  Let it chill in the refrigerator overnight.

7.  When ready to serve, remove tin foil from the pan and cut into square pieces.

8. Attempt to resist eating it all in one sitting.  Now that's a challenge!

Now this is a fudge anyone can handle me!  And it's the perfect treat this fall or for any "appreciation week."  Just pair it with a free printable like the one I used, or she has several options like "staff", "friends", "teachers", etc.

I may or may not be thinking about making these nuggets of gold for my family this Thanksgiving.  And that's not the only holiday I've been thinking about lately.  Spoiler Alert: look below.  #HalloweenSchmalloween

...and I got swept up in all the festiveness and brought out one of my Christmas mugs.  Too soon?  I couldn't help myself!  Tis the season y'all; bring on the s'mores.

What's your favorite version of S'mores?  What have you done for appreciation weeks in the past?  Is your mind already swarming with Thanksgiving and Christmas ideas?

The Do's and Don'ts of Instagram

Social Media.  Everyone has it these days.  And every blogger should.  Social Media can definitely boost your blogs success.  Plus, "I have to for my blog" is the perfect excuse to put off something productive to scroll through your Instafeed.  #sorrynotsorry

But as a blogger there are "rules" for managing these accounts to benefit you and your blog.  The do's and don'ts.

DO have your blog URL in your profile for easy access.  Instagram still doesn't allow clickable links through your posts, but add a "link in profile" to get followers to access your blog easily.

DONT leave comments only asking people to follow you.  Just don't.  Not cool.

DO use creativity.  Take pictures using different angles, from a different point of view, etc.

DONT comment with #tagsforlikes or #commentforcomment.  That's spammy.  No thank you.

DO use filters and edit your picture.  But don't over do it.  These should enhance your picture not completely change it.

DONT  go to someone's account and like their past 20 pictures, only to not follow them.  Spammy.  If you like that many pictures, follow the account.  It only makes sense.

DO post pictures of babies.  Everyone loves babies.  Pictures of babies get more likes.  FACT.

DONT post more than twice a day.  More than this becomes excessive, and no one wants just one user filling up their entire feed.  Exceptions?  Weddings + Babies (see above.)

DO follow me.  What kinda blogger would I be without a shameless plug?  ;)

DONT only post promotional pictures for your blog/brand.  Post personal pictures as well, readers love to know what happens behind the scenes.

So there you have it.  My ten dos and donts of Instagram, to improve your following.

What would you add to my list?

What is your favorite blog tip?

What other blog related topics would you be interested in reading more about?

Happy Monday my sweet peas.
