a [healthier] BLT

I'm always looking for ways to make recipes healthier without losing flavor in the process.  Not all recipes work out, but I found one that did.  I originally found this recipe for a healthier [non-mayo] BLT sauce, and with a couple twists + some additions I found the most addicting healthy recipe there is.  The star of the recipe?  Tumaro's Tortillas.  Holy Yum.

Fact: it's possible to make a healthy recipe without sacrificing taste; who knew!

what you need for the BLT Wrap:
Tumaro's Tortillas; I used the Oat + Flax
Turkey Bacon
Non-Mayo Sauce

what you need for the sauce:
non-fat, plain greek yogurt [ 5 tbsp ]
low-fat cottage cheese [ 1/2 C, then smash the chunks to make creamier ] 
dijon mustard [ 1 tbsp ]
salt + pepper

how to make the sauce: smooth out cottage cheese chunks; then mix all the ingredients together.

how to make the wraps: cook turkey bacon in the oven [check out this post for a no-mess way to make bacon].  chop tomatoes and shred lettuce.  then assemble your wraps: layering the sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon.  

There were three ways I chose to make this recipe healthier.  Turkey Bacon.  Non-Mayo Sauce.  And wrap vs sandwich.  

Making the decision to skip the sandwich and turn my BLT in a wrap, was an easy one considering the calorie and carb difference.  Then Tumaro's tortillas take it one step further making their tortillas taste like your average tortilla with 50% less calories, with 60 calories or less, and only 6 net carbs [see more nutrition info here].

Even if you don't know much about nutrition labels, you know that carbs are not a good thing.  Bummer for this carb-lovin' chick.  Thank God for Tumaro's.  

Turn this delicious, healthy BLT into a football party finger-food appetizer and your football lovin' man will never know the difference.  Win-win.

  2. This looks delish and the sauce totally makes the wrap! If I'm in a huge hurry, I actually cook the turkey bacon in the microwave! This would become a super quick "in a pinch" meal for sure!
