Eat Drink & Be Mary: 2013

2013: A Year in Review

Today is the last day of 2013.  Does anyone else find this absolutely insane & impossible to be true.  It feels like yesterday I was puckering up at midnight and ringing in the New Year with fireworks.  I just don't get where the time goes?  Seriously, I'm baffled.
As the year ends I wanted to reflect on all that has happened within this last year.  It has been a wonderful year.  My family and I have been extremely blessed & I couldn't ask for more.  Also, I've realized several new readers around these parts, and thought that this (along with yesterdays post) would help you get to know me a little better.
ps. I realize lots of bloggers are doing similar posts these days but I figured it would still be fun plus I haven't been blogging all year so you may learn something new :) ENJOY!

Goals & Resolutions for 2014
Go on a diet.  Never drink soda again. Eat Clean. Be a better me.
None of these are bad ideas--I just never put my whole heart into completing my resolutions throughout the entire year.  This year, since I never stick to them, I thought I'd save myself the trouble and do my best to sticking to the saying, "Do what you love, Love what you do."

What about you?  Do you make New Years Resolutions, and if you do, do you stick to them?
Have a Blessed and Happy New Year my loves!  You've made this year one to remember & I can't wait to see what this next year has to offer.

The Girl Behind the Blog.

Hey y'all!  Thanks for stopping by.
I've noticed recently that many of you are new around here.  And what better time than now to talk about some of the quirks that make me, well me.  I am so flattered that you have taken time to stop by my baby blog and follow along this crazy life I lead.

Today I am making a guest appearance over at The Modern Tulip.  I am beyond thrilled to be guest hosting over there.  Not only is this my very first guest post, but I have known Maegen since we were little tots.

Can you spot the girls behind Eat Drink & Be Mary and The Modern Tulip  ?

So without further adieu...

Seven things you may or may not want to know about me:
+ I love to bake.  Not to be confuse with cooking.  I don't cook.  It's just not my thing.  That is, unless you consider Kraft Mac 'n Cheese cooking.  And in that case you'd probably consider me a chef.  It's my specialty.  Some of my favorite things I've baked recently are these Oreo Balls and Oreo Upside-Down Mini Cheesecakes.  Noticing a trend?

+I am a Pinterest addict.  Am I married? Nope, not even engaged.  Do I have any little tots? Negative.  Do I know what I'm doing with my life? That would be a big, fat no.  I hardly know what I'm doing tomorrow.  But if you saw my Pinterest boards you would think I had the perfect wedding (with all the perfect Pinterest inspired decorations), live in my magazine worthy  house with my husband, 2 kids, and a dog.  Leisurely spending all my time baking and crafting all the DIY projects I am constantly repining.

+ Proof reading.  I should do it more often.  I guess it's the rebel in me that just doesn't wanna look over that English paper before doing it because that's what nerds do.  But really I should.  Don't say I didn't warn you.  A blogger volunteered to proof read blogger's post--I jokingly volunteered to be subject to the brutal corrections, but was given the a-okay.  My parents seem to disagree though. Hmmm....
I have been trying more recently, but I still miss the occasional typos.
Dern fingers, hitting the wrong keys.

+ I can't ride a bike.  I once learned.  Forgot.  Wrecked.  Re-learned.  Forgot again.  And have yet to muster up the courage to what seems like just another wreck.  This is kinda embarrassing.  I'm the exception to the phrase, "it's like riding a bike."  Remind me again why I've decided to include this face and tell the entire blog world that I can't do what most four year olds have mastered.

+ I am scared of big dogs.  This may or may not be related to a big dog charging at me at the young age of two, for stealing all the attention.  Can't Stop, Won't Stop. ;)

+I once made sugar cookies with salt instead of sugar.  When I admitted this to the loves of this blog world most of y'all admitted you've either done this before or sounds like something you'd do.  That warms my heart.  Sidenote: Does that make me a bad person?  I just like to know we're all in this together.

+ I am a lover of all things coffee, Instagram, and anything with an elastic waist band.  Thanks to Santa Baby, I gained not one, two, but nine more pairs of leggings and tights this Christmas.

With all that said and done it seems that I am a college graduate who has no clue what she's doing with her life, doesn't know the difference between sugar and salt, hates dogs and doesn't even know how to ride a bike.  While this is not how I'd describe myself to someone, it doesn't hit to far from home.  So I've either scared you away or hopefully this has intrigued you to follow along this crazy ride I call life.  Who knows maybe I'll finally learn how to ride a bike again.

The Weekend I've Been Waiting For...

Sunday is finally here. The day I’ve been waiting for…but before I get too ahead of myself let me me back up a little. The weekend after the holidays. Wow, what a difference since last weekend. All the hustle and bustle has died down. People are beginning to take down their trees.   And Christmas songs have stopped gracing radio land with their presence. How depressing. The days after Christmas just don’t have the same feeling as the days leading up to the Lord’s big day. But before this post gets entirely too depressing—I bring to you my weekend recap!

Friday – Some QT was spent with my Grandmama and Bubby. They live maybe two miles away from where we live. It has been such a blessing to grow up living so close to them. We played games (a common activity seen to grace their tables) & they let me go through their Christmas decorations they no longer want. I was tickled pink at the amount of d├ęcor they gave me. So generous!

Later that evening I met up with two of my best friends from high school (Carolyn & Michelle—I’ve mentioned them many times before). Dinner date & a gift exchange. Much needed and let’s just say they feel my obsession with diamonds and confusion for how everyone around us is getting engaged. I am so blessed to have such great friends that know me so well. The gifts they got me were perfect. I mean seriously…leggings & a monogrammed infinity scarf.

Afterwards, I met my parents for a family workout shesh. Haha that sounds so funny to me, but it’s true. My dad got us a family membership to a local gym; my bank account thanks him to the shallow bottom of her whole heart. 2 things about this adventure-- 1. The movie The Santa Claus was on the TV. I didn't know they still played Christmas movies after the holidays, but I didn't hate it. 2. Do you guys ever try to read while on the elliptical? That ish is hard! I’ve seen other bloggers talking about reading while working out; but I just can’t do it for some reason. But I love to read.  Oh, the struggle.  A for effort?

Saturday – Talk about a day of relaxation. Sleeping in. Breakfast from Panera. Spent the morning and afternoon catching up on the numerous Criminal Mind shows I have recorded on our DVR. Relaxation, I tell ya!  We then spent the evening taking down our tree, and by we I mean my mom and I. Followed by more family bonding at the gym. And finally, the entire family finished off the night watching the movie, The Impossible. It’s a pretty great movie—about a family that was in a tsunami and their journey to finding their way back to each other. I rarely recommend this type of movie, but it was eye opening and truly touching.

Sunday – The day. The day I've been waiting for.  The day I drove down to good ole South Carolina to see my sweet boyfriend and his family. After making the four hour road trip bright and early this morning I was finally reunited with my sweet man.  I plan to be spending the evening and the next couple of days soaking up as much QT as I can.  Cheers to the next 3 days and an amazing New Years. :)

For the next weekish I will be traveling around in South Carolina. But no worries, I already have some posts all lined up and scheduled to be viewed on your side of the screen.
Follow my traveling adventures on Instagram.

Have a great week my loves. And of course, a Happy New Year.
May your 2014 be blessed with happiness and new beginnings!
Stay tuned tomorrow I bring you, My 2013 Year in Review.

Five on Friday: Holiday Edition

It's Friday Y'all!  Which for most people, including myself, it doesn't feel much different than any other day due to being on break from work/school.  But still Friday's hold a special place in my heart.  I mean I'm pretty sure no other explanation is needed.  So here's five things that have been happening in my life lately...

ONE. I will be posting my Christmas Recap next Wednesday (yes I realized that's New Years Day), but I thought I'd give a little Christmas Eve recap today.  We have spent the last couple Christmas Eve's at my Grandmama & Bubby's house.  It is fun to focus on family and not as much on the presents that will come the next day.  We play lots and lots of games everytime we go to their house, so Christmas Eve was no exception.  Games & Good Food--what else could you want.  It was so much fun spending time with them.  The night was capped off by my family watching It's A Wonderful Life another Christmas tradition.

TWO. This was the first year I was in control of the Christmas breakfast--eek!  Which is a miracle in itself seeing I am not a morning person by any means.  It was absolutely delicious.  Stay tuned, recipe coming to a screen near you soon.

THREE. Earlier this week, I participated in my first giveaway.  How exciting!  And also put my idea of NYE outfits for going out and staying in.  I'm no fashionista, but if I say so myself, these outfits are pretty dang cute.  And I plan on putting together something similar to the "staying in".  Speaking of NYE--Are you in need of some New Years Neccessities?  Then what are you waiting for enter the giveaway!

FOUR. Speaking of New Years Eve.  1-I cannot believe that Christmas has come and gone, and the New Year is almost here!  My 2013 Year in Review will be posted Tuesday.  I have a feeling this post will be interesting considering most of my year took place before I "entered" the blogging world.

FIVE. I am LOVING my new chalkboard markers I got for Christmas.  I got the chalkboard a while ago around my birthday, and now I finally have chalk to experiment with.  I'm totally having all ball--check it out...

And that's it folks.  Another week over.  And what an magical week it was.

A New Year's Giveaway

The day after Christmas. Wait, what? I can’t believe that Christmas has come and gone. But don’t fear New Years Eve is near (why this little rhyme popped into my head I do not know). Less than a week to be exact. I personally am super excited for three things. Fireworks. Shrimp. And Seeing Thomas. Excited doesn’t even come close to describing it.

Growing up we never had any big traditions for NYE. Except for watching the ball drop at midnight obviously. Thomas’ family is pretty big on it though. Oysters & Shrimp make an appearance every year along with fireworks set off by my favorite red head. So yea, I’m pretty ecstatic.

Do you + yours have any NYE traditions?

Thomas and I will be spending the evening with his family. AKA: We’re not going out. So I plan on keeping it pretty comfy as far as my attire, but that doesn't mean there won’t be glitter and/or sequins involved. Recently I heard about this app called Polyvore. So I thought I’d show y’all a little bit of my favorite “going out” & “staying in” looks for NYE. ENJOY!

Oh…and in the spirits of all things shiny, sparkly, & everything NYE--a few girls and I have put together a little giveaway. Well what are you waiting for? Start entering.

Your prize package will include all of your New Year necessities! A girl has to be prepared for anything that could happen on New Year's! The only thing you don't have is a breathe mint. But that's up to you to decide your own fate.

Elf Makeup Set || Gold Polish & Hairties || Red Velvet Cupcake Soy Candle || Red Lipgloss || Bath & Body Works NYE candle || Scarf || $10 Ulta Giftcard || Black & White Orly Polish || Sparkle Coin Purse & Anchor Necklace

Twas the night before Christmas

Such an original title.  I know.  But I couldn't think of anything more fitting for this post.

My Favorite Christmas Traditions--
I mentioned another Christmas season tradition that I LOVE doing earlier here.
Christmas Eve-- In my house it has been a tradition (for at least ten + years) to watch It's A Wonderful Life & open one present.  It was soo exciting as a kid to open one present early.  Even if it always ended up being a movie or pajamas.
Christmas Day-- Ever since I can remember my Grandaddy would come over first thing in the morning to watch us open our presents.  I can remember very vividly sitting on his lap and opening all the wonders that lie in my stocking that Santa's elves himself picked specially for me.  He has been there every Christmas minus a very few that he lived outta state and the Christmas we had an ice storm.  He drove an hour to our house in the ice storm, but unfortunately couldn't get down our room due to a fallen tree across the road.  Talk about dedication.  This tradition has become near and dear to my heart as I've grown up and realized the effort, love and thoughtfulness my sweet Grandaddy has put in to watch his grand kids light up as we opened the beloved Christmas presents.
Another tradition we have is my dad reading the birth of Christ from the bible (last year was the first year my brother picked up the role) & baking a cake to celebrate His birthday.  It was always very important to my parents that us kids never forgot the true meaning of Christmas & had us sing Happy Birthday to Jesus each Christmas morning before we were allowed to opening any presents.
I just wanted to take a minute to stop by and wish each and everyone of you a Merry Christmas.  Tomorrow I will being spending the day with my family curled up under the Christmas beside a fire, and nothing could be better.  And I hope you and yours will be spending quality time together, as well, as we celebrate the reason for the season.

So have a very Merry one!  And remember Jesus is the reason for the season.
